SuperCoach NRL: Four things we learned from Dolphins v Panthers

Dolphins star Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow delivered a hammer blow to the Penrith Panthers’ five-peat hopes. See the four things we learned from Thursday Night Footy.

The Dolphins' in-goal shocker still wasn't enough to save the Panthers

Dolphins star Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has delivered a hammer blow to the Panthers’ hopes for a premiership five-peat, scoring three tries to secure his sides first ever win over Penrith.

See the four things we learned and relive our live coverage of an enthralling Thursday night of footy.

1. ARE THE PANTHERS DONE?

Penrith’s hopes of another premiership have suffered a massive blow after their fifth straight loss. No team has ever won the comp after a 1-5 start to a season, and the Panthers’ credibility has suffered a massive blow. They are no longer a safe tip and there are serious question marks over some of their biggest SuperCoach stars. Nathan Cleary managed to salvage a passable performance with 61 points but is set to lose over $44k.

2. THE DOLPHINS ARE BACK, BUT DO WE BUY?

After a slow start to the season, the Dolphins now have back-to-back wins and their attack is on fire, with 66 points scored in those games. But despite the points flowing there is a surprising lack of SuperCoach relevant players worth buying. Max Plath is the most owned Dolphin but has proven to be too inconsistent, and the same goes for Jamayne Isaako who needs tries to get a decent score. But all that being said there is still some contenders.

3. A POD OF DOLPHINS

The Dolphins may have some potential PODs that SuperCoaches may want to consider. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will get some attention next week after toning up on the back of a hat-trick, but has been pretty inconsistent outside of that. The real player to keep an eye on here may be Herbie Farnworth, who is yet to score below 55 points this season, despite only scoring one try on the year. He finished on 74 points tonight before updates.

4. NOT ALL DOOM AND GLOOM FOR PANTHERS PLAYERS

Despite not getting the win and only scoring one real try (the Leota try was an absolute gift from the Dolphins and doesn’t count), some Panthers players still managed to end up with decent SuperCoach scores. In his first game back from injury, Dylan Edwards (1.9% owned) ended up on a whopping 71 points, mostly on the back of his game high NINE tackle breaks.

Thomas Jenkins looks set for a $58 price rise despite ending on his lowest score of the season so far, while Isaah Yeo did enough to keep the 14.5% of SuperCoaches who own him happy, ending on 64 points (59 of which was in pure base).
