Brisbane’s season from hell plummeted to new depths with Red Hill confirming Anthony Milford could be out for up to 12 weeks with a knee injury.

The Broncos’ million-dollar man suffered left-lateral knee damage during last weekend’s loss to Newcastle with club medics reporting Milford would be sidelined indefinitely.

Canterbury playmaker Kieran Foran succumbed to a hamstring injury in the 25th minute against the Sharks.

The injury is not considered serious and there were even hopes he would return.

With the Bulldogs on the bye this week, Foran is a chance to play the Bulldogs’ next match against the Knights in Round 17.

Newcastle superstar Kalyn Ponga is out of State of Origin 3.

The Knights on Sunday confirmed Ponga will be sidelined for two weeks due to a calf injury, putting an end to his hopes of playing the Origin decider.

Ponga was left out of Kevin Walters’ squad named Monday morning.

NSW halfback Nathan Cleary will be named for the Origin decider.

But NSW coach Brad Fittler has imposed a fitness deadline, with Cleary needing to train by Thursday.

Wests Tigers hooker Robbie Farah has urged the NRL to eradicate eye-gouging from the game, stating of the ugly crime: “There just isn’t any excuse for it”.

Sporting a visible welt and scratch marks around his right eye, Farah was on Thursday night the victim of an alleged eye gouge that now sees South Sydney’s George Burgess staring down one of the longest suspensions in the NRL era.

Only seven months after gouging New Zealand captain Dallin Watene-Zelezniak in a Test match, Burgess is now headed back to the NRL judiciary over a new incident deemed too serious for grading.

It has been suggested Burgess could now miss anywhere from six to 12 weeks.

NSW prop David Klemmer admits he would require a pain-killing injection to take part in the State of Origin decider.

In any case, Klemmer is set to be left out of NSW’s squad for the decider.

St George Illawarra enforcer Tariq Sims is set to be ruled out of the do-or-die Origin III in Sydney after being charged by the NRL match review committee.

Sims is facing between two to three weeks on the sideline after being slugged with a grade two dangerous contact charge for his hit on North Queensland and Queensland Origin playmaker Michael Morgan on Friday night.

Sims would need to successfully fight the charge at the judiciary on Tuesday to be any chance of taking his spot on the NSW bench.

The hit saw Morgantaken off with concussion. He is expected to be right for the Origin decider and has been named.

Sims is expected to be named for NSW at 6pm Monday.

Warriors utility Nathaniel Roache suffered a suspected ACL injury in the loss to the Panthers.

Edrick Lee, who was forced to withdraw from Queensland’s Origin 2 squad with a leg injury, is again out of Origin contention with a suspected broken arm sustained in Saturday’s win over the Broncos.

Brisbane winger Richie Kennar made it through just 12 minutes against the Knights before succumbing to a shoulder injury.

Parramatta forward Peni Terepo is facing a four-game NRL ban for a swinging arm in the Eels’ 22-16 win over Canberra on Saturday.

Terepo was on Sunday stung with a grade two reckless high tackle charge for his first-half shot on Jordan Rapana which drew blood from the nose of the Raiders winger.

The Eels big man will miss three matches if he takes the early guilty plea.

Api Koroisau’s worst fears have been confirmed with the Manly hooker expected to miss at least six weeks after undergoing surgery on a syndesmosis injury sustained in Round 14.

Most in the NRL require a 8-10 week recovery, but we have seen returns as soon as six weeks (Daly Cherry-Evans) under the right circumstances.

The Eels have suffered a blow with Tongan international Michael Jennings set to miss the next six weeks with a knee injury.
