NRL 2023 team lists round 7, SuperCoach analysis and trade talk

KFC SuperCoaches have been forced into a waiting game on one of our brightest money-making prospects. Full lowdown via TOM SANGSTER

KFC SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 7

We start on huge KFC SuperCoach news with last week’s most popular buy Zac Hosking retaining a starting spot.

But … and it’s a big but … Liam Martin (hamstring) and Luke Garner (ribs) are lurking on the extended bench.

There’s every chance Hosking at the very least sees reduced minutes this week and going forward.

He may even be benched and there’s even the chance, although unlikely given his strong showings so far, he drops out of the team altogether.

All eyes will be on Late Mail for Penrith’s final team make-up.

But even if he does drop out, SuperCoaches already have almost $100,000 in the sky rocket so the bulk of Hosking’s job is done. He becomes Ryan Matterson, Tapine or Tohu in the near future.

WINNERS FROM TEAMS

* Nicho Hynes - Back from the bye and THE player to purchase this week. Do absolutely anything to get him in, even if it means spiking a keeper in another position. Nicho has averaged 141 in his two games so far and is predicted to rise by $87,200 after this week, so he is not one to dilly dally on. Tough-ish match up this week against the Roosters but then has a dream run against the Bulldogs, Cowboys, Dolphins, Sea Eagles and Knights.

* Cameron Munster - Munster is the cream of the crop in terms of replacements for Adam Doueihi (ACL). He has averaged a massive 15 points more than the next best player in the position this season yet still sits in relative POD range for him at 13 per cent. Add to that a cameo at fullback this week where his base stats are sure to go through the roof, and you have a serious buy.

* Jarrod Croker – A blast from the past with genuine SuperCoach claims. Croker is the most popular backline cheapie after returning to the top grade on the weekend with 40 in pure base. He’s retained his centre spot but the job security is a bit of a mystery. On one hand his spot should be safe given the Raiders notched a rousing win with Croker back in the side.

However, Xavier Savage is due back soon which theoretically could see Seb Kris move back to centre and Croker drop out of the side (although there is also chat Savage may return through NSW Cup). With next week’s bye to take into consideration, ideally you’d wait until round 9. But those needing quick cash for Nicho might not have that luxury.

* Tom Trbojevic - Battled through last week with a back injury but has been named and declared a certain starter. Currently the third most sold player but expect that to change following the positive news on his injury. Definite hold for mine especially with upcoming match-ups against the Tigers and Titans, although he has to get through a tough match-up first against the Storm this week, albeit at his favourite 4 Pines Park.

* Lindsay Smith - Plenty have an eye on the boom Panther as a cheapie after averaging 44 in his first two games to sit with a -14 BE. Like Hosking above, he has retained his spot in the 17 but has Martin and Garner lurking in the extended squad and could easily lose his spot. Even if he plays, minutes appear limited in such a strong pack and I’m therefore leaning towards South Sydney’s Hame Sele and St George Illawarra’s Toby Couchman as the cheapies of the week at 2RF and FRF, while Soni Luke is also a better buy at hooker.

* James Tedesco - Back from concussion in a big boost for the 10 per cent who hung on. SuperCoach Plus predicts Tedesco will be available next week at a $210,000 discount on his starting price.

* Tohu Harris - Returns from a knee injury for the Warriors after a two-week hiatus. Harris played 80 minutes in all games this season prior to his injury-affected match and hopefully the injury doesn’t see him eased through minutes-wise. In any case, the injury means Harris now sits with a BE of 101 and he could bottom out perfectly just before the byes, at which point he becomes one of the most valuable assets in KFC SuperCoach.

* Joe Tapine - Back for the Raiders after missing last week for the birth of his child. Speaking of the byes, Tapine will be one of the most important players over this period given he won’t play Origin (he’s a New Zealander) and covers two tough bye rounds in 13 and 19. Incredibly consistent this season with a low score of 57 and high score of 67 - all without any attacking stats. Expect him to bust out soon.

* Alofiana Khan-Pereria - There was plenty of chat prior to TLT that star cheapie AKP could be dropped for Jojo Fifita. It hasn’t happened, but keep a keen eye on Late Mail as Fifita is in the reserves. In any case, Khan-Pereria is fast moving towards sell territory given the BE of 5, having made us just a tick under $250,000.

LOSERS FROM TEAMS

* Adam Doueihi - Most popular sell following an ACL injury – his third on the same knee.

* Reuben Garrick - The star CTW sits out this week on the NRL’s 11-day mandatory stand down policy for concussion. But he was the top averaging CTW in SuperCoach prior to the injury and covers Round 13, so a definite hold.

* Wayde Egan - Yet another concussion-related break for the Warriors hooker and he’s an obvious sell to Soni Luke or even Nicho Hynes with the right duals.

BUY

* Soni Luke - It’s been a stop start season for Luke due to a pre-season injury and two ill-timed concussions just when he appeared set to take off. That moment could be now with Luke finally upping his game time to 53 minutes last week - in line with pre-season predictions. With a BE of 17 and ability to notch bulk attacking stats, Luke is the most purchased cheapie this week.

Latrell Mitchell celebrates one of three tries. Picture: Getty

* Latrell Mitchell - Brilliant on the weekend with 146 points including three tries and two try assists. After a slow start in tough match-ups, the South Sydney superstar is now available at a $166,700 discount on his starting price and is set to surge (BE 13 and predicted rise of $53,200). Now is the week to get on but he’s set to remain in POD range with so many SuperCoaches rightly prioritising Nicho.

* Cody Walker - Like Latrell, Cody had a tough start to the season in hard match-ups. But he’s come to life and averaged 96 in the last three rounds. A genuine POD replacement for Doueihi as just nine per cent ownership.

SELL

* J’Maine Hopgood - After a red-hot start and even “best cheapie ever” hysteria, Hopgood has averaged just 54 in the last four rounds. That’s not keeper areas and he’s therefore the most sold player this week at a massive $250,000 profit.

* Paul Alamoti, Stefano Utoikamanu, Will Warbrick - Pre-season cheapies who have peaked in price and can be cashed in at massive profits.
