Does rugby league have a new glamour couple?

Sydney Roosters NRLW star Jessica Sergis and Sea Eagles outside back Tommy Talau have set tongues wagging after dropping hints on social media that they may be dating.

Just days before the New Year, Sergis shared her first picture with Talau in a series of posts on Instagram.

In scenes reminiscent to Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore’s 1990 blockbuster film Ghost, the Jillaroos centre kissed Talau on the cheek as they moulded clay on a pottery wheel.

The 23-year-old Talau, who has joined the Sea Eagles this year from the Tigers, appeared smitten and smiled as Sergis sat on his lap.

Family, friends, teammates and fans flooded the post with comments further adding to speculation that the players are an item.

“Soft launch” former Roosters teammate, Leianne Tufuga said below the photograph in a comment that was “liked” by Sergis.

The NRLW star also liked comments on the post from social media users, including “cute little soft launch! My favs”, “Stop it, you two” and a comment from sister Vivienne Sergis which read “we love TT”.

Sergis was not the only one sharing photos online, with Talau posting a picture on his Instagram stories of her lying by a pool with the caption “views”.

The Daily Telegraph reached out to Sergis for confirmation of the relationship, but the Roosters star said she preferred not to comment on her personal life.

Both Sergis and Talau competed for Australia and Samoa respectively in the Rugby League Pacific Championships in November of last year.

Although the new pairing took most by surprise, this is not Sky Blues superstar Sergis’s first high profile relationship after she dated former Dragons clubmate Zac Lomax.

The pair had become synonymous with each other in the rugby league world and lived together in Wollongong, but split in 2022.

The new potential pairing comes after months of speculation regarding Australia’s biggest sporting couple Penrith’s Nathan Cleary and Matildas star Mary Fowler, and countless off-season weddings for the NRL’s biggest stars.

Sergis and Talau are set to join the likes of high-profile rugby league couples in Gold Coast NRLW star Shaylee Bent and David Fifita from the Titans, and Newcastle’s Adam Elliott and the Roosters Millie Boyle who were married in October last year.

Cameron Munster, Jack Wighton and Max King were among some of the other high-profile rugby league players to tie the knot after the 2023 season.

The romance doesn’t stop there, with many players also starting their life long journeys with their partners by getting engaged.

Panthers playmaker Jarome Luai announced his engagement to long-time partner Bailey Paris Toleafoa just last week.
