What’s The Buzz: Sharks keen to open up salary cap space by dumping Matt Moylan

He’s on $800,000-a-season and has played just 19 games over the past two years, so it’s little wonder Cronulla are looking to open up some salary cap space by moving on from Matt Moylan.

Cronulla is about to have a difficult conversation with injury-prone five-eighth/fullback Matt Moylan who has earnt $80,000-a-game in the last two seasons.

The ex-Penrith Panthers star is on $800,000-a-season but has played only eight games for the Sharks this year and 11 last season due to hamstring injuries.

Coach John Morris revealed on Friday that Moylan would not play again this year.

The 29-year-old is under contract until the end of next season but will be given permission to talk to other clubs.

The Sharks would contribute to his contract if he can find another club.

The club’s position is understandable. Moylan has done nothing to justify his hefty price tag for two years. His attitude and commitment are questionable.

Moylan knocked back a three-year offer to join the Wests Tigers at the beginning of the season.

The Sharks are not in a position to strengthen their roster next year unless he finds a new club.
