PHIL Rothfield runs his eye over the highlights, lowlights and talking points of another bumper weekend of rugby league action.
HIGHLIGHT
There’s an old saying in sport that a champion team will always beat a team of champions. This best sums up the Wests Tigers and their remarkably successful start to the season.
LOWLIGHT
No-one minds a bit of rivalry and the occasional feud in rugby league as long as it doesn’t get too personal.
Some may have found Nathan Brown’s comments about Wayne Bennett’s private life funny but he crossed the line of respect and it was unnecessary.
LOWLIGHT II
The hopeless NRL schedule that allowed two games in Sydney’s south on Friday night within 10km of each other. Then no games in Sydney on Saturday afternoon or evening.
SPOTTED
The entire Bulldogs squad having a post-match get together at the Oatley Hotel on Saturday afternoon.
All behaving impeccably taking photos, signing autographs and being great ambassadors for the game.
RAGE: Bennett furious at Brown’s backstab

6PM SCREAMER
Not everyone likes the 6pm Friday night timeslot but Round 7 will be an absolute screamer and must-watch television.
It’s a top of the table clash between St George-Illawarra and the Warriors live from Auckland. What a blockbuster!
HEAVILY EDITED
It’s hard enough backing a winner without having to rely on omen tips. So when three newspaper executives went to Royal Randwick on Saturday as guests of Racing NSW supremo Peter V’landys for The Championships they noticed a nag called Editors in Race 6 at Taree.
It won. The editors not only got the winner at $4.40 but also the quinella with the aptly named Forever Alone, as in lonely at the top, running second.
And in a rare sight, the Australian’s Paul Whittaker and The Daily Telegraph’s Chris Dore and Brad Clifton were later seen shouting at the bar.
