The Brisbane Broncos are facing a long period of time without inspirational captain and halfback Adam Reynolds after he appeared to suffer what could be a season-ending bicep injury.

It piled on a horrific night for the Broncos, who also lost Jesse Arthurs to a broken jaw as the Roosters made the most of the injury crisis, running away with a 40-18 win.

With Brisbane down 18-6 a matter of minutes into the second half, Reynolds went for a tackle on Roosters winger Fetalaiga Pauga but immediately knew something was wrong.

Reynolds signalled straight for the bench with his arm hanging almost uselessly beside him as he bravely ran back to the line.

Fox League’s Dan Ginnane said it was “an ugly sight”, while Michael Ennis said there was “an awful silence that’s fallen over Suncorp Stadium”.

He added: “Brisbane’s season is on a knife’s edge. Last year’s grand finalists chasing a shot at redemption and arguably their most important player is on his haunches.”

It really didn’t look great as he left the field and soon after, Corey Parker had bad news for Broncos fans.

He reported it was a “ruptured bicep, it looks like it has come off the bone — there’s a considerable hole where the bicep attaches”.

“That’s awful news,” Parker said.

Post-match, Broncos coach Kevin Walters said it was “potentially season-ending”, although admitted they won’t know until after he goes under the knife.

The NRL Physio account on X posted: “Adam Reynolds off with a biceps injury – considering traumatic mechanism will be very lucky to get away without a rupture (complete tendon tear).

“If confirmed would require surgery & 3 months recovery – have to really hope it’s not as bad as it looks.”

It’s been a tough season for Reynolds after he suffered what appeared to be a brutal knee injury in round five against Melbourne, but was back in round eight.

Unfortunately, his return has lasted just one and a half games as his night, and potentially season, was ended early against the Roosters.

Fans were devastated for the Broncos half.

Bunyip Newspaper’s Jem Nash posted: “Uh oh Adam Reynolds. That does not look good.”

One fan wrote: “Reynolds doesn’t deserve this man.”

Another fan commented: “Adam Reynolds. So sad. I’m thinking that may be it for him.

“If so Adam thank you for such amazing memories.

“You’ll always be a Rabbitohs legend.”

Immediately after, however, the Broncos erased the Roosters’ 18-6 lead as 21-year-old duo Reece Walsh and Ezra Mam combined to give the 2023 grand finalists some hope for the future.

But it’d been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster against the Roosters with Reynolds’ injury, Arthurs going to hospital with a suspected broken jaw and then Mam being taken off the field for HIA for category two concussion symptoms.

Mam passed his concussion test, but reports soon emerged that both Arthurs and Reynolds would require surgery.

The Roosters took advantage, claiming four straight tries to blow out the scoreline, running away with the 22-point win.
