NRL star ruins his old coach with wardrobe choice for Dally Ms: ‘I’m dead’

Cooper Johns has left his former Melbourne Storm mentor Craig Bellamy dead and buried with a hilarious tribute at the Dally Ms.

The Johns’ remain undisputed as the most hilarious family in rugby league.

Cooper Johns - the son of Fox League funnyman Matty Johns - absolutely nailed his wardrobe choice at Wednesday night’s Dally M Awards in a hilarious potshot at Melbourne Storm coach Craig Bellamy.

Johns, who played under Bellamy for a few seasons at the Storm, managed to get his hands on the infamous “Beetlejuice” jacket his former mentor wore to the 2019 Dally Ms.

From the double breast to the matching black bow tie, Johns perfectly recreated Bellamy’s horror show - and social media stood as one to applaud.

“Looking sharp beetle juice,” former pro surfer Joel Parkinson wrote on Instagram.

“I’m dead,” added another NRL fan.

Bellamy looked far more dapper this year as he went for an all black look - although the trophy he picked up was identical to 2019 as the 64-year-old as he was named NRL Coach of the Year for the seventh time.

It was a banner night for the Storm as star halfback Jahrome Hughes took out the top honour.

“He has had a standout season, he’s been wonderful for us,” Bellamy said. “I think he’s just got more belief in himself.”

The pair will attempt to lead the Storm to another grand final win against Penrith this weekend.

“You’re very fortunate when you do get in a grand final and very grateful that you get there,” Bellamy told Fox League.

“This group worked very hard for it and on Sunday we’re going to have to play very well to get what we want. Hopefully we can do that.

“This group is one of the best group’s I’ve had.”
