The woman reported the incident with Mascot police last weekend.

The St George Illawarra Dragons player is due in court on April 13.

“Earlier this month, officers from the South Sydney Police Area Command commenced an investigation following reports a woman has been sexually touched by a man known to her on Tuesday March 8,” the force said in a statement on Monday night.

“Following inquiries, a 29-year-old man was arrested at Mascot Police Station about 4.40pm today.

“He was charged with sexually touching another person without consent and granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday April 13.”

The Dragons released a statement to confirm the NRL integrity unit was contacted by police.

“The St George Illawarra Dragons have been made aware of a matter involving one of its players by the NRL integrity unit,” the statement read.

“The Dragons are working closely with all parties, as the matter is under police investigation.

“The Dragons will be making no further comment at this stage.”

Burgess only returned to the NRL this season after a season in the UK Super League and a year rehabilitating from a hip operation in March 2021.

He had his Dragons debut against the Penrith Panthers on Friday night, which doubled as his 150th match.

The 29-year-old is the younger brother of former South Sydney star Sam and the twin brother of Rabbitohs forward Tom.

Burgess has three children with his wife Joanna.
