SuperCoach NRL: 30 Winners, Losers from Panthers vs Tigers, Titans vs Sea Eagles, Broncos vs Raiders

Another Super Saturday is wrapped up with title contenders stamping their authority in style. See who stood out in the SuperCoach world with our 30 Winners and Losers from the day.

SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 7

After what was a mixed Friday night for tipsters, Super Saturday restored a bit of hope for those who side with the favourites.

Penrith was still without Nathan Cleary but found enough late in the contest to knock off the Wests Tigers in Bathurst.

Manly had to survive a shootout on the Gold Coast. They led, trailed and then found themselves in front at fulltime in an 11-try thriller.

It was a slow start from Brisbane, but they quickly found top gear and put the Canberra Raiders to the sword during a 19-minute stretch in the first half as they flexed their premiership muscles.

Here are the 30 SuperCoach Winners and Losers from Super Saturday:

SUPERCOACH WINNERS

1. Reece Walsh (112 pts) – Two tries, five goals, three line breaks and a whole lot of SuperCoach points to boot.

2. Jason Saab (94 pts) – A welcome addition for the Sea Eagles and he made a big impression out wide.

3. Ezra Mam (98 pts) – Was superb in posting his best score of the season and only his second of 55+ points.

4. Isaah Yeo (84 pts) – Such a reliable scorer and a try assist help to add to another big score for the classy lock.

5. David Fifita (86 pts) – Putting it together and is always a tryscoring threat as evidenced tonight. Building a good average.

6. Simi Sasagi (77 pts) – Played in an unfamiliar position in the second row and demolished his breakeven of 16.

7. Dylan Edwards (87 pts) – Topped the scores from the opening game and keeps his streak of good scores alive.

8. John Bateman (79 pts) – Was one of the Tigers’ most dangerous players and that reflected in his score.

9. Pat Carrigan (75 pts) – All hail the base points King. Another very solid showing from the star lock on the back of his strong base points.

10. Paul Alamoti (69 pts) – Scored a try in his Panthers debut, although there are obvious questions on job security.

11. Jock Madden (75 pts) – Not sure how much longer he’ll be in the starting side, but is pushing his claims for a bench spot once Adam Reynolds returns.

12. AJ Brimson (67 pts) – Added so much to the Titans attack at fullback, a position he should stay in for the foreseeable future.

13. Alofiana Khan-Pereira (71 pts) – Was dropped a few weeks ago, now has put together impressive scores of 61 and 71.

14. Ethan Bullemor (64 pts) – Almost doubled his previous best score of the season on the back of scoring a try.

15. Sunia Turuva (72 pts) – Heavily boosted by a double, but that’s one of the great perks of sitting on a Panthers edge.

SUPERCOACH LOSERS

1. Daine Laurie (7 pts) – Again only saw minutes late in the contest and just isn’t a viable SC option at this point.

2. Tristan Sailor (7 pts) – Only saw limited minutes once again and the game was over by the time he stepped on the field.

3. Jamal Fogarty (13 pts) – Had a tough first half and now looks to have suffered a serious injury. Rough night for the Raiders skipper.

4. Karl Lawton (9 pts) – Two errors in his 22 minutes on the field, didn’t show a great deal for the Sea Eagles.

5. Luke Garner (24 pts) – Is capable of having a monster game, but Bathurst wasn’t the scene for one of them.

6. Reuben Garrick (38 pts) – There’s worse scores out there, but the output for his price was a long way below par.

7. Sam Verrills (21 pts) – You get the feeling he’s being underutilised at the Titans, playing just 29 minutes tonight.

8. Danny Levi (24 pts) – Played 76 minutes but produced just the 24 points in a night to forget for his owners.

9. Chevy Stewart (14 pts) – Was given no peace by the Broncos playmakers and his 14 points saw him hit his breakeven. Just.

10. Charlie Staines (21 pts) – Doesn’t have the greatest base stats and his score fails to rise when he’s not given the chance to attack.

11. Api Koroisau (35 pts) – One of the most popular hookers in the game, but it wasn’t happening for him today.

12. Kotoni Staggs (30 pts) – Got an early breather for precautionary reasons but didn’t score highly to that point.

13. Chris Randall (32 pts) – Seemingly given the keys to the Titans hooking role, but couldn’t get close to his huge score from last week.

14. Liam Martin (27 pts) – Played the 54 minutes against the Tigers but didn’t really trouble the SC scorer.

15. Daly Cherry-Evans (45 pts) – On a night where Manly scored six tries, DCE’s score is below what you’d expect.

FULL-TIME – Broncos 34-10

The second half wasn’t as clinical from Brisbane, but when you lead by 28 points at the half it doesn’t have to be.

Canberra showed some good signs in the second half with a couple of tries to make the scoreline a bit more respectable.

It was clear through the Broncos had dropped a gear or two in the second half however with the game safely in their keeping.

Here are the top SuperCoach scores from the contest, and stay tuned for the highly anticipated Winners and Losers list from Super Saturday.

Broncos vs Raiders, SuperCoach full-time scores.
Broncos vs Raiders, SuperCoach full-time scores.

70th minute - Broncos 34-10

Kotoni Staggs was taken from the field by Broncos coach Kevin Walters, but the word is that it was purely precautionary.

They can afford to make that decision with the lead they have.

To Canberra’s credit they continue to fight, and a kick from Simi Sasagi is tapped back by Sebastian Kris into the waiting arms of Xavier Savage to grab their second of the night.

60th minute - Broncos 34-6

The Raiders are on the board.

Simi Sasagi gets through a very poor attempt at tackle by Jaiyden Hunt to finally get the Raiders on the board.

The rain is pelting down at Suncorp Stadium.

The news from the sideline isn’t good for the Raiders with Fogarty suspected to have a ruptured bicep.

To make matters worse, Selwyn Cobbo has extinguished any hopes of a comeback after crossing the line - just moments after the Raiders failed to find touch from a penalty.

50th minute - Broncos 28-0

If being down 28 points wasn’t enough, the Raiders have to deal with Jamal Fogarty being ruled out for the rest of the game with a bicep injury.

It’s a cruel blow for Canberra, who are obviously can’t win this game, but with an eye to the coming weeks.

An extended period on the sideline could hamper their hopes of remaining in the top eight.

Jesse Arthars has been denied a try by the Bunker after fumbling the ball over the line.

Jock Madden is rocketing up the SuperCoach points ladder with 64.

HALFTIME - Broncos 28-0

In what started as such a promising half for the Raiders, has quickly turned into a nightmare.

To the naked eye it looked like they opened the scoring early on to cap off a dominant first 10 minutes.

Hudson Young was correctly ruled to have dropped it and from that point on it has been all Brisbane as they piled on five tries in 19 minutes to swiftly take Canberra out of the contest.

33rd minute - Broncos 28-0

Did you hear that thud? That’s the Canberra Raiders coming crashing right back to Earth.

Nobody is home behind the defensive line and a simple grubber and chase from Billy Walters pushes the advantage out to 24 points in the blink of an eye.

They’ve scored four tries in the space of 15 minutes to completely blow the Raiders out of the water.

You know what? You can make that five in 19.

Walsh has a first-half double after getting between Ethan Strange and Sebastian Kris to cap off what has been an extraordinary first half.

25th minute - Broncos 18-0

Ezra Mam puts a lovely kick in close to the posts, Fletcher Baker takes clean possession and hands off to Preston Riki to extend the Broncos lead.

After a hot Raiders start it’s incredible to think that Brisbane leads by two converted tries.

They’re taking their chances and now have another.

Jock Madden puts up a huge spiral bomb, Chevy Stewart fumbles it and Mam puts a deft little grubber on the ball to score the easiest of tries.

They have gone back-to-back in incredible fashion.

Reece Walsh has 45 SuperCoach points with Ezra Mam rising to 52.

16th minute - Broncos 6-0

Reece Walsh you superstar.

He takes the ball, but moves while it’s in the air to bamboozle Matt Timoko, before running over 40 metres to slice through the Raiders defence to open the scoring.

That was a seriously good try, to which he converts.

10th minute - 0-all

It’s been all Canberra to start this contest.

But just as it looked like they would have the opening points to start this contest, the Bunker has intervened to deny Hudson Young the opening try.

He got up celebrating - so he has entered the Fibber’s Club.

7.30PM: There is just the one change for the final fixture of Super Saturday, with the Raiders opting to switch up their starting 13.

Simi Sasagi (CTW $219,900) will start in the second row with Ata Mariota (FRF $331,300) moving to the interchange.

Martin Taupau and Kaeo Weekes are the 18th men for tonight with Chris Butler the man in the middle.

Reece Walsh (FLB $664,200) made a winning return to the Broncos line-up last week and will be looking for a strong game as Brisbane tries to get back into the top eight.

Chevy Stewart (FLB/CTW $204,300) made many take notice and was a popular option for SuperCoaches heading into this round.

FULL TIME – Sea Eagles 34-30

What a wild game. And perhaps most wild was the fact neither team scored in the final quarter of the match after exploding for 64 points through the first 60 minutes.

Is another close defeat satisfactory for the Gold Coast?

Back to the drawing board for Des Hasler and his men.

TOP SUPERCOACH SCORES

1. Jason Saab 94

2. Tom Trbojevic 87

3. David Fifita 86

4. Haumole Olakau’atu 83

5. Alofiana Khan-Pereira 71

6. AJ Brimson 67

7. Tanah Boyd 66

8. Ethan Bullemor 64

9. Kieran Foran 64

10. Brian Kelly 59

70th minute – Sea Eagles 34-30

The scoring finally slowed down but the action is just as engaging.

Jason Saab looks most likely to be the first player to 100 SuperCoach points, but first and foremost on his mind will be getting the win.

We’re almost getting into ‘next try wins’ territory.

57th minute – Sea Eagles 34-30

Well, my bold prediction from approximately 60 seconds ago has come true.

They really weren’t finished scoring.

Manly are back in front and this time it was Ethan Bullemor scoring his first try of the season under the posts.

With 20 minutes to go we could see some astronomic SuperCoach scores.

Jaimin Jolliffe has passed his HIA.

55th minute – Titans 30-28

AJ Brimson has to be the Titans fullback next week.

The livewire has been one of the best players on the field and has a hand in everything alongside halfback Kieran Foran.

The Gold Coast are back in front for now, but I have a feeling there are more points in this game...

43rd minute – Sea Eagles 28-24

That’s not the man you want to pass to if you’re Tanah Boyd.

Tolutau Koula pounced on an intercept and no one is going to catch him with a one-second headstart.

Koula is one of the fastest players in the league and he did Reuben Garrick a nice favour by running the try under the posts for an easy conversion.

Which way do you think this game is going to go from here?

HALFTIME – Titans 24-22

If you thought these teams were finished scoring, you were wrong.

This is the game that just keeps on giving, this time Jason Saab breaking into the backfield and finding Tom Trbojevic for the eighth try of the first half right before the buzzer.

Truly either side could claim this one, but the real winners are anyone who owns players in this wild contest.

2. Tom Trbojevic 74

3. Haumole Olakau’atu 70

4. Alofiana Khan-Pereira 61

6. David Fifita 51

7. Brian Kelly 43

8. Daly Cherry-Evans 35

9. AJ Brimson 34

10. Jaimin Jolliffe 34

37th minute – Titans 24-16

This game is madness.

AJ Brimson soared high to pluck the ball out of midair and extend the Titans lead late in the first half.

Manly simply cannot defend right now and they need to be careful not to concede again before the break.

But thankfully for Sea Eagles fans, it looks like there are plenty of points still to come from both sides.

32nd minute – Titans 18-16

Pressure turned into points for the Gold Coast following a shocking Jason Saab error on the first tackle after Tom Trbojevic pulled off an incredible escape from the in-goal.

David Fifita crashed over from dummy half in an inexcusable lapse of concentration for Manly.

The first team to show they can actually defend their line will win this match.

25th minute – Sea Eagles 16-12

It didn’t take long for Manly to respond. This time it was verified big bopper Haumole Olakau’atu strolling over from close range to get the visitors back in front.

Has an NRL match ever seen 100 points?

We could be in for a record-breaking night the way things are going.

20th minute – Titans 12-10

Wow. A game that started very ominously for the Gold Coast has been turned on its head by two tries to Alofiana Khan-Pereira.

Kieran Foran had his fingerprints all over it again, putting Brian Kelly through a hole allowing the winger to score a simple try.

Jason Saab is up to 56 SuperCoach points but he has looked very ordinary in defence.

Khan-Pereira has moved to a game-high 58 SC points.

14th minute – Sea Eagles 10-6

The Gold Coast are showing they won’t give up despite a little bit of early adversity.

Veteran halfback Kieran Foran floated a pass to winger Alofiana Khan-Pereira to get the Titans on the board.

This game is scoring at a point per minute – let’s hope that translates to SuperCoach points for everyone involved!

9th minute – Sea Eagles 10-0

The Sea Eagles are in again with their next set.

Manly looked more than willing to spread the ball early and attacked both sides of the field.

Garrick’s sideline conversion attempt hit the post and bounced back out.

Jason Saab is up to 48 SuperCoach points already in his return from injury.

7th minute – Sea Eagles 6-0

Manly are soaring early and Tom Trbojevic made it looks like a walk in the park with a simple dummy and run to open the scoring.

The Gold Coast players were furious in their calls for an obstruction but the referees weren’t having a bar of it.

Things could get ugly for the Titans if they don’t clean up their act soon.

TEAM NEWS

A late shuffle sees AJ Brimson start at fullback with Tanah Boyd parachuted into the halves. David Fifita moves to the interchange allowing for Isaac Liu to start at lock. Toby Francis is the 18th man.

Dean Matterson was added to Manly’s bench on Friday after Nathan Brown failed to get over his knee complaint. Matt Lodge (ACL), Reuben Garrick (concussion) and Jason Saab (hamstring) all return to the side in a major boost for the Sea Eagles.

FULL TIME – Panthers 22-6

The Tigers certainly made them work for it but the competition’s benchmark team were too classy in the end and ran away with the result.

That scoreline doesn’t represent how tough this game was for Penrith, especially in the 20 minutes after halftime.

Dylan Edwards and Isaah Yeo led the way in SuperCoach scoring with almost 100 points each.

Tigers winger Junior Tupou left the field just before the break and did not return.

72nd minute – Panthers 22-6

That’s lights out for the Tigers.

New Zealand Warriors fans will be salivating at that barnstorming try from James Fisher-Harris.

As fatigue sets in for the Tigers all they can do is grab at air as the NRL’s premier prop strolled through to put the result out of doubt.

63rd minute – Panthers 16-6

Paul Alamoti finally has the first points of the second half with an impressive try in his club debut.

The Tigers have had every opportunity to take a lead in Bathurst but Penrith weathered the storm and look to be back in control.

Dylan Edwards’ sideline conversion was struck perfectly to extend the lead to 10 points.

60th minute – Panthers 10-6

The game has entered a bit of a lull as both teams fight for ascendancy.

The Tigers have probably had the better chances but are unable to break through the resolute Panthers defence.

It goes without saying, but the next try will have a huge bearing on the final result.

50th minute – Panthers 10-6

The Tigers wasted their first opportunities of the second stanza, failing to build pressure despite good early field position.

The Panthers have also been uncharacteristically sloppy but they still lead the game by four points.

John Bateman is already up to 43 SuperCoach points and he is playing at right centre.

HALFTIME – Panthers 10-6

Tigers winger Junior Tupou looks to be in plenty of discomfort. The tall outside back left the field three minutes before the break on 53 SuperCoach points.

With no outside back on their bench there could be an interesting shuffle at halftime. Englishman John Bateman finished the half in the centres.

Wests are still well and truly in the contest but Penrith are warming into the game.

Isaiah Papali’i was placed on report in the late stages of the half.

27th minute – Panthers 10-6

An unforced error by Junior Tupou opened the door for Penrith to start a set deep in attack and the competition heavyweights made the Tigers pay for the mistake.

The Panthers spine combined to shift the ball from left to right and some quick hands put Sunia Turuva over for his second try of the afternoon.

It doesn’t get much simpler than that. Turuva is up to 56 SuperCoach points.

17th minute – 6-6

Sunia Turuva has scored his seventh try of the season to hit back for the Panthers.

It was a positive sign for Penrith who have been outplayed in the opening quarter of the match.

Tigers winger Junior Tupou is the first player to crack 50 SuperCoach points.

13th minute – Tigers 6-0

The Panthers are lucky to still have 12 players on the field after Brad Schneider ankle tapped Justin Olam without the ball in a tryscoring situation.

Wests put in a successful challenge but fans were left baffled that Schneider wasn’t sin binned for the clear professional foul.

The Tigers bombed their opportunity to attack with the ball sailing over the right sideline.

10th minute – Tigers 6-0

Some John Bateman magic has allowed Wests to open the scoring with a spectacular late offload to Junior Tupou.

Brad Schneider and Dylan Edwards were livid after the stand-in halfback was clipped late as he was kicking long in the set before the Tigers try.

Although no penalty was blown, Aidan Sezer was placed on report for the incident.

The Tigers have started the game with plenty of resolve.

Lachlan Galvin put a nicely weighted grubber into the in-goal for a repeat set but great work at the back from Dylan Edwards kept the Tigers scoreless early.

Edwards and Brian to’o have looked strong for the Panthers coming out of their own half.

TEAM NEWS

Panthers recruit Paul Alamoti will play his first NRL game for Penrith after Taylan May withdrew for a personal matter. Otherwise the reigning premiers enter the contest 1-17.

The Tigers also enter the clash 1-17 with popular SuperCoach cheapie Lachlan Galvin ($311,800) returning to the side and set for a large price rise with a -43 BE and projected score of 50.

John Bateman (concussion), Samuela Fainu (concussion) and Latu Fainu (hamstring) return to the side with Brent Naden in line for his first appearance of 2024.

Welcome to our live coverage of Super Saturday in the NRL, with three blockbuster clashes involving some competition heavyweights.

Kicking off at 3pm is the defending premiers Penrith taking on the Wests Tigers in Bathurst. SuperCoach fans will be over the moon to see favourite cheapie Lachlan Galvin ($311,800) eligible for selection again, with over 2000 players bringing the young gun in this week. The 21% of players still holding on to Nathan Cleary ($883,600) have to wait at least another week for the superstar to return.

The second game of the afternoon sees the winless Titans host the Sea Eagles at Cbus Super Stadium. Owned by over 50% of players, Ben Trbojevic ($355,300) is a big loss for the Sea Eagles, but the returns of Reuben Garrick ($696,800) and Jason Saab ($556,700) should excite SuperCoaches.

Finally, the third clash of Saturday sees the Broncos host the Raiders at Suncorp Stadium, probably the most SuperCoach relevant fixture of the day. Ethan Strange ($477,200) remains the most owned player in the game at 64.9%, with owners hoping he can replicate his 83 points in round six. Other popular assets that SuperCoaches will be keeping an eye on in this meeting includes cheapie James Schiller ($394,600), 2FR favourite Morgan Smithies ($465,800) and big gun Patrick Carrigan ($693,700).
