Move over John Grant.
Now it’s Todd Greenberg’s turn to cop the heat when frustrated NRL coaches on Monday converge for their end-of-year conference.
The Daily Telegraph spoke to several coaches on Sunday and the general mood was not one of happiness and hope but rather concern and cynicism ahead of the meeting.
At the top of their complaints was the standard of refereeing in 2016.
While Grant is under fire for reneging on promises made to the clubs in relation to funding and the future salary cap, there is no doubt many of the coaches are equally unhappy and fed up with what they have had to contend with on the field.
The general consensus is that referees’ boss Tony Archer has some explaining to do if Archer is to win back trust and support.
As one coach said on Sunday, the NRL have a habit of telling the coaches what they want to hear when they gather for these type of meetings, only for it to end with broken promises when it comes to the crunch.
It comes at a time when Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson is trying to establish a coaches union.
It is understood the coaches have been invited to meet up this morning as a group before they attend the NRL commissioned conference.
The coaches will also want some clarity on potential rules changes, and also changes to the match review and judiciary process after some of the diabolical inconsistencies this year.
