Anthony Seibold has barely stepped foot outside of the Brisbane Broncos facilities before a new opportunity has arrived.

The former Brisbane Broncos coach left the club only two years into a five-year deal and could now potentially link up with an old friend at the Newcastle Knights.

Seibold has endured a vile smear campaign which spread rumours about him and his family across social media as the Broncos also sunk to their lowest ebb, sitting second-last on the ladder with just three wins on the season.

“I think the final straw was hopping back on a plane from Sydney when I wanted to be with my daughter,” he said.

“Right now I want spend more time with my family as they’ve made enormous sacrifices in recent times.

“People ask me if there are things I would do different over the last two years, but none of that matters right now.

“I gave my best to the Broncos, but ultimately I am responsible for where we are currently at.”

But the coach may not be away from the game for long with a report from The Sunday Telegraph detailing an olive branch being extended from Knights coach Adam O’Brien.

O’Brien and Seibold worked alongside one another at the Melbourne Storm under Craig Bellamy and with a Knights assistant coach set to depart at seasons end, the opening could see Seibold reunite with his old friend.

“I think it’s a mate looking out for a mate in a really dark time,” Cooper Cronk told Fox League.

“Anthony Seibold has been through the wringer over the last 18 months at the Broncos. But the coach I knew at Melbourne Storm for three or four years was a very good coach.

“I think Adam O’Brien knows that side of him as well.”

O’Brien said he had not proposed a working role to his friend Seibold.

“He‘s a good coach,” O’Brien said.

“The thing with me is, I always have people around me who have been through experiences and this has certainly been an experience for him.

“But I just want to make sure he‘s all right.”
