NRL 2022: Fans involved in Anzac Day punch-up at Suncorp before Broncos v Bulldogs showdown

Friday night’s spirited Bulldogs-Broncos contest spilled into the stands when a Canterbury fan produced the best punches since Jeff Horn beat Manny Pacquiao to flatten a Brisbane supporter.

Thankfully the Broncos showed more fight than one of their fans in the Suncorp stands.

Brisbane’s gutsy 34-14 come-from-behind defeat of the Bulldogs was marred by an Anzac Day altercation after a Canterbury supporter belted a rival Broncos fan for disrespecting the landmark occasion.

The 34 players from both sides showed the usual respect for Anzac Day festivities as the Last Post reverberated around Suncorp Stadium in honour of the braveheart soldiers who comprised the Anzacs.

But the spirited Bulldogs-Broncos contest spilled into the stands when a Canterbury fan produced the best punches since Jeff Horn beat Manny Pacquiao at Suncorp Stadium to flatten a Brisbane supporter for screaming during a minute’s silence.

Vision of the incident shows the Bulldogs supporter hurling abuse at the Broncos fan before striking him with a right hand. When the Brisbane supporter rose to his feet, the Bulldogs patron continued his attack with a flurry of punches.

The Bulldogs fan even received support from another Broncos supporter, who verbally rips into the victim, pointing to the Suncorp exits and suggesting he leave for carrying on during the minute’s silence.

For most of the night, the Broncos were also on the ropes, but they avoided hitting the canvas as Adam Reynolds inspired a stunning fightback.

Queensland Police have confirmed neither party involved in last night’s biff have come forward.

The Courier-Mail has been told both men were escorted out of Suncorp Stadium following the altercation.

It’s understood both stadium security and police removed the men from the Broncos v Bulldogs game.

Police are unable to properly investigate the assault until the event one of the men comes forward.
