SuperCoach NRL: Six things learnt from Magic Round opener – Sharks vs Eels, Roosters vs Dolphins
James Tedesco’s scintillating form commenced Magic Round in a big way, with a SuperCoach favourite also playing himself into the good books. Here are the six things learnt from Friday Night Footy.
Magic Round is two games down with a big Friday in the books.
Cronulla was classy in its take-down of a determined Eels side.
The Roosters looked like they were going to run away with it, but the Dolphins managed a respectable scoreline, albeit a losing one for them.
Here are the six things we learnt from Friday footy.
RETURN OF THE NICHO
After a low score of 38 in round six, Nicho Hynes’ SuperCoach scores have been on an upwards trajectory, capped off with a stunning 113.
He can thank a brilliant line-run from Briton Nikora that netted him a try assist right before halftime.
But Hynes deserves credit for taking the line on and getting results.
SHARING THE LOAD
While Nicho enjoyed the fruits of the attacking stats, it left halves partner Braydon Trindall to starve.
That’s his fourth score of the season of under 18 points, a far cry from the 97 he scored in round three against the Rabbitohs.
His SC ownership peaked at 7.4%, but it will certainly dip under five coming into round 10.
FLYING FOXX
Josh Addo-Carr added another double to take his tally to four tries in his past two games.
It also saw him crack the century with a neat 100, backing up his 94 in the win over the Tigers.
The Eels are at their best when the Foxx is on fire, and he you can guarantee his SuperCoach ownership will steeply rise from the 0.7% current mark.
FORTUNE FAVOURS THE BRAVE
Teddy in good form is always a captaincy contender.
For those that put the C on James Tedesco, they were rewarded for their bravery in doing so on the opening day of the round.
He finished with a healthy score of 121 to get plenty of people’s Magic Rounds off to a flyer.
SWINGS AND ROUNDABOUTS
Sandon Smith was the man of the hour last week, taking out Anzac Day man of the match honours and a SuperCoach score of 129.
The 4339 who traded him in were dealt a cruel, cruel blow when he was ruled out of the contest in the opening minutes.
Naturally he scored just the one point, amazingly above the break-even however, which sat at -8.
HIT REWIND
Robert Toia may still be in over 53% of teams, but his ownership is at the lowest level it’s been all year, and ironically he turned it on in a big way.
His first ever Magic Round appearance was a memorable one, churning out a double and a monster SuperCoach score of 140.
He was unstoppable tonight and has a lot of people regretting hitting that trade button, while over 65,000 SuperCoaches benched him.
