The daughter of former Test star Les Boyd has labelled Darryl Brohman “sad” and told him “let it go and move on” from the pair’s infamous clash.

Alicia Boyd took to social media on Monday to claim Brohman had caused her family “stress, hurt and anxiety.”

Brohman has publicly ridiculed a decision to induct Boyd into the NRL Hall of Fame at a black tie ceremony at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday night.

The pair have been sworn enemies for more than 40 years after Boyd broke Brohman’s jaw during a State of Origin match in 1983, for which he was suspended for 12 months.

Boyd fired a return shot last week before a frustrated Alicia Boyd took to Facebook on Monday to express her anger at Brohman.

“I feel the need to put it into writing after 40 years of not saying a word,” she wrote. “The way in which Darryl Brohman feels the need to make everything ever mentioned about my dad (Les Boyd) about him is nothing short of sad really.”

Alicia Boyd said Brohman had taken several opportunities to talk down her father “over an incident that not only occurred forty years ago but that he also got well compensated ($30,000) for and in my opinion is one of the reasons he is so widely known today”.

“It was an incident that we as a family are very well aware happened and probably changed the course of our lives if we’re honest, but one incident does not define nor make a person.

“Again in my opinion, it was obviously the only highlight of Brohman’s career/life as it is something he clearly cannot move past, which is very sad.

“My brother and I have lived our whole lives just waiting for the next time Brohman will bring it up again because we all know he will, but as a parent, this time have decided (against Dad’s wishes) to have my say because I teach my children that [it] is NOT OKAY!”

Alicia Boyd said she was compelled to defend her father, having “sat back and watched” Brohman deride him for years.” One of the things I say to my children is: Did it happen? Yes. Was it dealt with? Yes. Then let it go and move on,” she said.

“Perhaps something that Brohman’s mother should have taught him. As the mother of a seventeen-year-old boy who plays a lot of rugby league in various competitions, I am aware that things happen on the football field that in no way reflect the player’s character off the field.

“And in the case of my father, this is definitely true and anybody who knows him personally knows that. “Unfortunately, the nature of the sport does incur injuries of all types and yes Dad did probably go out that day with an elbow but never intentionally to break a jaw.

“The sport has changed so much over forty years, a lot of people have had a lot of different types of injuries but the only person to my knowledge to carry on so much about the same injury is Brohman.

“I would really like to make him aware of the stress and anxiety that his words and actions have had on Dad’s wife, children, grandchildren and other members of the family.

“I would really like to encourage him to think about what he says before he says it and who he is hurting and perhaps seek some advice to leave it behind and let it go.

“In conclusion I would like to say how incredibly proud we as a family are of Dad and all his achievements on and off the sporting field.”
