The North Queensland Cowboys have claimed a 29-28 win over the New Zealand Warriors after Valentine Holmes kicked one of the biggest field goals you’ll ever see.

While the match had turned on the back of a shootout between two of the NRL’s teen sensations in the Warriors’ Reece Walsh and the Cowboys’ Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, it was the 25-year-old 129-game veteran that decided the result with the booming kick.

The Cowboys took full advantage of a Jazz Tevaga sin bin in the first half with two tries making it a 22-6 game at halftime.

But the Warriors responded immediately in the second half, scoring two tries in the opening seven minutes of the second half.

The second was something special as Walsh showed off his lightning speed.

It came as the Cowboys went the short side but the ball went to ground with Walsh receiving the ball and taking off.

SMH sports reporter Christian Nicolussi timed his 88m run at 10.4 seconds but incredibly, he was dragged down by 20-year-old forward Heilum Luki.

What a try for Reece Walsh.
What a try for Reece Walsh.

Luki made a mountain of ground, even dragging him down 5m short, but Walsh was still able to slam the ball down.

“Luki almost pulled off the try saver of the season,” Warren Smith screamed in Fox League commentary.

“Two young men in this great game, what athleticism it was from Luki.”

But he also called Walsh “a triple-A rated, gold plated superstar”.

The Warriors were on the charge, taking the lead 28-22 in the 66th minute.

It wasn’t over though as the Cowboys hit back through a long range try to Tabuai-Fidow.

He stepped Walsh, he beat a tackle from Kodi Nikorima to score.

He’d been out of the game for six weeks with an ankle injury and evened up the game to set up the grandstand finish.

And the dab to celebrate.

A missed field goal from the Warriors’ Chanel Harris-Tavita turned out to cost the Warriors the win, with Holmes then stepping up to seal the incredible result.

From a hair under 40m out, Holmes unleashed a massive field goal with the ball going so high and far it passed the goalposts above the sticks.

“You can’t strike it any better than that,” Smith said. “He has done it again. Valentine Holmes has wins the game surely for the Cowboys.”
