I’m not sure Hoppa will be sitting at home this Sunday with the remote control eating pizza, as our artist Boo Bailey seems to think.
But while Hoppa has the full support of his teammates, it was still funny to hear Sam Perrett reveal how he was knocked back the same opportunity when he put it to Des Hasler recently.
One of the nicest men in the game, Perrett is also a devout Mormon. “Des basically said had we negotiated like Hoppa had done, it would have been a different story,” Perrett said. “But he said we were down on numbers and we are going to need you.”
Not that Perrett was complaining. But it will be interesting to see how future requests are handled by other NRL coaches. You can bet Perrett won’t be the last to ask.
