WESTS Tigers centre Tim Simona will risk a three-game ban when he attempts to downgrade his grade two crusher tackle charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night.

Simona originally attracted a base penalty 250-point charge for dangerous contact to the neck of Cronulla centre Jack Bird late in last Saturday’s loss in Campbelltown.

Should he successfully downgrade to a grade one, he will miss just one week.

But if he loses, he will be suspended for three matches.

Warriors flyer Solomone Kata will be free to take on Manly this Saturday after taking the early guilty plea for his dangerous throw of Sydney Roosters centre Blake Ferguson.

Earlier on Tuesday, Canterbury second-rower Tony Williams escaped suspension after being handed a grade one charge for tripping Canberra’s Blake Austin in their Monday night encounter.

The base penalty carries only 75 points, meaning Williams, who was also cleared of a possible crusher tackle by the NRL match review committee, will be free to take on Melbourne next Monday. Bulldogs teammate David Klemmer also wasn’t cited for a possible punch on Raiders prop Shannon Boyd.
