INJURED Titans duo Ashley Taylor and David Shillington are hopeful of taking the field next Sunday against the Sharks with the aid of a nine-day turnaround.
Taylor (shoulder) battled on after picking an early knock in Friday’s loss to the Broncos, while Shillington (hip flexor) was ruled out pre-game after picking up an injury in the warm-up.
Initial indications were that Taylor just suffered a contact injury and would be right for next week.
“I just went low and got a numb shoulder,” he said.
“I didn’t want to cost us an interchange. I wanted to be out there for the boys and try and bring us home.
“It’s pulled up all right. It’s not as bad as I thought it was.
“Shoulder injuries can put a cloud over you. I want to put myself in the best position to get right.”
Taylor has undergone three shoulder reconstructions, including two on the left shoulder he injured against Brisbane.
Shillington went down pre-game, but is also hopeful of being back next game.
“Doing one of the run-throughs in the warm-up, I just strained my hip flexor,” he said. “I thought I could run it out if a got a bit warmer and kept it moving and stretched a bit more.
“But it just got worse. I had no strength in it and I couldn’t take off with any speed. I wanted to risk it, get out there amongst it, but if I went down two minutes into the game we would have been down to 16 men.
“I’m pretty confident I’ll be right (for next week’s game against Cronulla). The docs already scanned it in the medical room and there’s a bit of bleeding, but it’s not in the muscle, it’s in the joint.
“So I’ll hopefully get that bleeding out and get back running next week.”
Titans playmaker Tyrone Roberts (knee) is also aiming for next week after being a late withdrawal.
