Cameron McInnes took centre stage and delivered a few home truths to his teammates in the wake of an embarrassing defeat against Penrith two weeks ago.
While McInnes did not want the post-game spray to be made public, he did not shy away from what he told his St George Illawarra teammates after they were thumped 40-18, ending any hopes of a finals return.
“I was disappointed that it came out,” McInnes said.

“Not that I care if people on the outside know what I say or do, but what happens in the dressing room can stay in there.
“It wasn’t a spray of any individual or pointing the finger. All I was saying was what we put out on the field that night and for the most part of the year is nowhere near the standard of the Dragons.”
St George Illawarra players did not have to look too far for inspiration in their next game against South Sydney. An exhausted McInnes dragged his battered body to charge down an Adam Reynolds field goal before rushing past Rabbitohs players to dive on the loose ball that would eventually lead to a Dragons try.
“It doesn’t matter the score and time of the game,” McInnes said.
“You have to keep competing and giving your all.”
The Dragons sit third-last on the premiership ladder and McInnes did not hide from the fact the year has been disappointing for players and fans.
“With the talent we have in the squad, it’s not good enough,” McInnes said.
“Some of the games we’ve lost, the way we’ve lost has been disappointing.”
