Broncos Tesi Nui defies physics in ‘insane’ try but Titans flex muscles

The Brisbane Broncos may be up against it on the Gold Coast but Tesi Nui scored one of the more freakishly acrobatic tries you’ll see.

The expected fireworks between the Brisbane Broncos and the Gold Coast Titans have not disappointed in the first half with one of the more unbelievable tries you’ll see.

The Titans hit the lead after 19 minutes but were applying the blowtorch to the Broncos in the early stages.

Ex-Bronco Jarrad Wallace, who played 74 games for Brisbane before defecting to the Gold Coast, scored first but the Broncos were about to hit back with something special.

The Broncos’ Brodie Croft kicked cross-field but looked to have kicked a bit too flat.

Just leave it to the outside backs.

Xavier Coates, after his acrobatics were so wrong last week against Parramatta, went up for the catch before tossing it to his centre

“Tesi Nui, that is brilliant, it’s undefendable,” Dan Ginnane said in Fox League commentary. “Xavier Coates rips it out of the air and Tesi Nui contorts his way over.

The crowd were furious after a clear knock on from Patrick Carrigan was ignored the play before by referee Matt Cecchin.

Former NRL great Willie Mason tweeted “Terrible miss from the official’s. One job.”

But the question marks were raised about the put down with Nui appearing to go very close to the line.

The bunker stopped the conversion attempt as they checked the put down.

“No way,” Ginnane said.

Michael Ennis added: “On first look, those studs on his boot have just dug in and he just stays in — that’s incredible.”

“This is insane,” Ginnane said. “The players are now using the arch of their feet to avoid the touchline.”

“They are so good,” Ennis said.

Ginnane: “I know they practice it but they can’t practice that surely.”

While the crowd was lukewarm at best considering the dropped ball earlier in the play, it was still a stunning moment.

But while it was a moment of brilliance for Nui’s first try in the NRL, it was one of the few bright spots for the Broncos.

After Nui’s try, the Titans blew the game open with David Fifita rubbing his defection in his former team’s faces, leading a run of three tries which opened up a 22-4 lead at the halftime break.
