The Knights have been dealt a major blow with the club confirming co-captain Jayden Brailey will miss the rest of the season after he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and tore the meniscus in his right knee.

It’s a devastating blow to one of the game’s nicest players, with Brailey missing most of the 2020 season with an ACL injury, while he played just eight games last year due to an Achilles rupture.

Brailey is one of Newcastle’s most important players, with the club set to turn to utilities Kurt Mann and Phoenix Crossland to take care of the hooking duties.

The Knights have been brave this year and should get Kalyn Ponga back next week, but this news has rocked the club who have vowed to support their inspirational leader throughout his recovery.

It’s a similarly sad story at the Wests Tigers with Adam Doueihi set to miss the rest of the year after he suffered a third ACL tear to the same knee.

The Lebanese international has been one of their best players this year but faces another gruelling rehab process to get back on the field.

North Queensland’s injury crisis in the forwards has deepened with Griffin Neame set to miss the next two months after he suffered a serious throat injury during last week’s loss to the Dolphins.

Neame was taken to hospital after the game where scans revealed he had suffered a cricoid fracture, which is the cartilage around the trachea.

He spent two nights in hospital before he was discharged on Sunday, with Neame facing at least eight weeks out of the game.

Neame has been terrific for the Cowboys in the middle but was forced to play on the left edge with so many forwards already missing.

Jeremiah Nanai will return from a two-game ban this weekend but the club is still without Heilum Luke (hamstring) and James Tamou (foot), while Jordan McLean is in doubt after missing the Dolphins loss with a hamstring strain.
