Australian netball fans are set for a double boost with an August 1 return confirmed for domestic action and a trans-Tasman series tussle to savour later this year.

Teams in the Super Netball competition can begin group training on Monday with the league committed to completing a full 60-match season – although the fixture list for the campaign has yet to be finalised at this stage.

And on the international front, The Australian Diamonds are set to take on the New Zealand Silver Ferns in the 2020 Constellation Cup towards the end of the year.

“We’re thrilled that a season start date has been locked away, now all our stakeholders have a date to work towards and fans can start to get excited for the start of the season,” Suncorp Super Netball CEO Chris Symington said.

“We are planning to play out a full home-and-away season, and we are confident that our start date gives us the best opportunity to achieve that.

“Our guiding principles throughout this process have never changed, those being the health and wellbeing of the community alongside the financial viability of our sport.”

And while players and fans of Super Netball outfits can look forward to some exciting action ahead, 2020 should also see Australia and New Zealand renew their rivalry on the court in the Constellation Cup.

The four Test series against the Silver Ferns will be held following the completion of the two nations’ domestic leagues and pending the travel situation across the Tasman.

However, the 2020 Quad Series between Australia, New Zealand England and South Africa in September, has been cancelled due to the impact of COVID-19 on international travel.

“It’s a significant blow to our Diamonds program, we won’t have an opportunity to play against the Roses and Proteas this year, however, we’re hopeful that our team will make it onto the court for the Constellation Cup with the Silver Ferns later this year, depending on how the COVID-19 situation evolves in the coming months,” Netball Australia executive general manager of performance Stacey West said.
