Contax crush Garville in premier league netball grand final
CONTAX reign supreme again as the premiers league club in South Australia after a comfortable grand final win over Garville.
CONTAX’S Leanne Eichler matched her record as a player with the premier league powerhouse when she claimed her fifth premiership as a coach on Friday night.
In an emphatic grand final performance, and with 16-year old rookie Georgie Horjus in stunning form at goal attack, Contax belted Garville 73-39 in Mile End to successfully defend the title.
Contax led by seven goals at half-time before blowing the game apart in the third quarter when they outscored Garville 19-8.
“I’m proud of the girls, they are a special group,” Eichler said. “It has been a tough year with a lot of players coming and going with the ANL and injuries.
“What the girls did was awesome, the way they played and stuck to the gameplan. They showed what they can do as a team.”
Horjus, a Kangaroo Island product playing her first season in the premier league, was awarded the Marg Angove Medal as the MVP after bagging 41 goals from 48 attempts.
Eichler said Horjus had been unbelievable all season and showed tremendous composure and maturity for such a young player.
