Bathurst winner Nick Percat hopes he can “kick some goals” when he makes a return to the General Motors family after signing to race with Matt Stone Racing.

Percat will join the Chevrolet Camaro squad from next season for the next two years as the Erebus Motorsport-bound Jack Le Brocq’s replacement.

The 34-year-old was on the driver market after it was announced last month he would part ways with Ford team Walkinshaw Andretti United at the end of the year.

Percat has experienced a couple of tough seasons at WAU, alongside teammate Chaz Mostert, finishing 15th in the standings last year and sits 21st in the 2023 campaign.

But MSR had targeted a race winner to replace Le Brocq, who will fill Will Brown’s seat at Erebus when he moves to Triple Eight next year.

Percat won at Bathurst as a rookie alongside Garth Tander in 2011 and is also a winner of the Adelaide 500 among his 14 podiums.

The South Australian, who will race alongside the recently re-signed Cameron Hill at MSR, hoped he could help push the team forward.

“I’m really excited to be joining MSR for the 2024 and 2025 Supercars seasons,” Percat said.

“It only took a few minutes to realise I was keen to join the team when I met with (team owner Matt Stone) at the workshop and saw the team for myself.

“It’s really positive and I can’t wait, but also for me personally, it’s cool to be back aligned with the GM family …. it’s very cool to be back driving under that banner.

“The results that MSR has achieved with the new Gen3 car have been super impressive … I’m looking forward to continuing that.

“The team itself is in a really good position to kick some goals over the next few years. Hopefully, I’m a big part of that and can help with a bit of experience and we can keep pushing towards the front.”

MSR broke through for the team’s maiden Supercars victory this year when Jack Le Brocq won in Darwin and has been a big improver in the new Gen3 product.

Team owner Matt Stone said Percat’s experience would be an asset for the squad.

“When we were looking for a driver to fill our available seat for 2024, we were looking for someone with proven race-winning experience,” Stone said.

“It’s exciting to sign a driver that has not only achieved race wins multiple times, but also won Bathurst and has such strong, consistent championship results in his time at BJR.

“The Bathurst 1000 is a clear goal on the top of MSR’s list. After our maiden race win earlier this year in Darwin, having someone like Nick in the team next year, is another big step up for the team.”
