The sweet sound of Adelaide Alive will fill the city’s streets once again on Friday night, when a parade of Formula 1 cars thunders through the CBD in a “Peak Hour of Power”.
As many as 21 priceless vehicles — including vintage and Adelaide-era Formula 1 cars — will headline the motoring pageant from Victoria Park to Gouger St as part of the Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
Among the celebrity drivers will be seven-time Bathurst 1000 champion Craig Lowndes in a LaFerrari, Italian Ivan Capelli in his 1989 Leyton House and international rally veteran Alister McRae piloting a 1993 world rally Subaru Impreza.
Also featured is the T51 Cooper that Australian legend Sir Jack Brabham famously pushed across the finish line after running out of fuel on the final lap of the US Grand Prix in 1959, which helped secure his maiden Formula 1 drivers championship.
Brabham’s son, David, will also drive Adelaide’s own supercar, the Brabham BT62, in its first on-road appearance.
The procession is scheduled to start at 5.45pm and will move under a police escort from Wakefield Rd and through Victoria Square to Morphett St before ending in Gouger St for the festival’s Gouger Street Party.
