PHILLIP Island is one of the fastest MotoGP circuits in the world, riders going from 75km/h to over 330km/h in the space of a 90-second lap.

TURN 1 — DOOHAN CORNER

“Very bumpy and very scary, especially turning in. But once you’re in the middle you’re like, ‘crap, I’m not going fast enough!’ so then you’re back on the gas.”

TURN 2 — SOUTHERN LOOP

“Special. There’s many different lines you can use through it. Normally the fast one is where you’re scared you’re about to run off track!”

TURN 3 — STONER CORNER

“My favourite. Through there you’re just saying ‘Yee-haa!’ You’re wheelieing coming in, then sideways coming out. It’s a whole heap of fun.”

TURN 4 — HONDA CORNER

“A bit boring, but a nice hairpin because there’s a whole heap of fans there. That’s where my parents always sit.”

TURN 6 — SIBERIA

“Into there’s always good, it’s got a heap of camber but you’ve got to be careful because it’s always a bit slippery.”

TURN 8 — HAYSHED

“All you’re trying to do is get the bike as stable and as straight as possible to get the power down as much as you can before Turn 9.”

TURN 9 — LUKEY HEIGHTS

“On this thing, all you’re trying to do is fight for grip over the top. The rear wheel’s just spinning like crazy!”

TURN 10

“Coming down a really steep hill, you’re just trying to stop it. Exiting, you’re trying to get as much grip and bring it over onto the right side of the track to go into 11.”

TURNS 11 & 12

“You start driving the power out of 11 and into 12 to try and get as fast as possible, getting the thing wound up for the run back down the front straight.”
