First hitout at The Bend gives all Supercars drivers the chance to win
NO Supercar has raced at The Bend Motorsport Park, meaning it will be open slather and anyone can take the first race win this weekend.
THE Bend may provide the best chance Supercar drivers will have all year of breaking a trophy-monopoly seemingly held by the drivers of the championship leaders DJR Team Penske and Red Bull Holden Racing Team, although to do so they better have a good relationship with their engineer.
Of the 21 races held so far this year, eight have been won by Red Bull HRT drivers and another eight by DJR Team Penske.
FoxSports commentator Mark Skaife said the brand new circuit would suit some drivers who liked a challenge and who could acclimatise quickly and championship leaders Scott McLaughlin and Shane van Gisbergen would immediately sprang to many minds as potential winners.
He said, however, the 4.95km circuit would suit at least a dozen drivers on the grid and the best working-combination of driver and engineer would do well.
“There’s probably 12 (drivers), maybe even more, that in certain areas the track will really like the way that it flows,” Skaife said.
