MOTOGP world champion Marc Marquez will be sidelined for up to a month after fracturing his right fibula in a dirt bike crash.
Marquez, who turned 21 earlier this week, will miss the second MotoGP test session scheduled for Sepang in Malaysia next week, and perhaps the test at Phillip Island the following week after hurting his leg during a dirt track training session near his hometown of Cervera.
He was rushed to hospital where scans showed a “spiral fracture of the distal third of his right fibula,” according to a statement from Honda.
Dr. Xavier Mir, who treated the Spanish world champion, says there was “no ligament damage or dislocation and no need to proceed with surgery. I expect he will need three to four weeks to fully recover.”
Marquez has already started rehabilitation with magnetic therapy but is unable to put weight on the injured leg for the next two weeks.
Doctors currently expect he will be fully recovered in time for the start of the MotoGP season
on March 23 at Qatar.
