Bond University and Brothers will enter Saturday’s match of the round with winning form after both hitting 40 odd points last weekend.
GPS RUGBY ROUND 1 - HOW IT UNFOLDED
ROUND 1 GPS FIRST XV RUGBY TEAM OF THE WEEK
Both Bond and Brothers will be on 33 competition points entering the big clash on the Gold Coast, with both clambering for fourth position.
Results:
Bond 45 defeated GPS 10
Wests 39 defeated Norths 12
Easts 35 defeated University 24
Brothers 40 beat Sunnybank 33.
The respective wins, and the Tigers winning performance against an imposing University, means Bond, Brothers, Norths and Easts were shoulder to shoulder chasing fourth position.
Our Team of the Week top XV features three players each from Brothers and two from Bond Uni, with another Bond player the first reserve chosen.

ROUND 14 TEAM OF THE WEEK
15 Ellis Davies (Brothers)
Last year the classy Welshman played fly half but has found himself a home at the back of The Brothers attack.
A good clearance kicker with speed to burn, Ellis played out a great game alongside crash running Siaosi Lealiifano and outside centre Tom Harvey who was excellent.
Ellis scored an all-important try late in the game to seal the deal and slotted five-from-six off the tee as well.
14 Jodeci Letalu (Easts)
The Easts fullback makes the team of the week for round 14 and would have been there or there or their abouts every game this season.
Sporting bright pink headgear, the instinctual Letalu has played every minute of every game this season and on Saturday had touches in two stunning tries scored by Mac Kelley and Archie Xavier.
13. Kye Porter (University)
In a revamped backline, Kye Porter popped up in all the right places to contribute in grand fashion.
In defence he held up his end of the bargain against two potent Easts midfield rivals, Larry Clark and Luke Hatherell.
12 Campbell King (Wests)
With Campbell King you can really tell this is not his first rodeo in Colts 1.
A third year player, King did a bit of everything In Wests commanding a 39-12 victory over Norths at Norths.
King’s dangerous short kicking game was special, as was his running game where he split open Norths defence and used his speed and footwork to kick away.
He scored one try and set up two others for his centre partner Dom Kallquist.
11 Blake Raymond (Bond University)
Slick moving outside centre Blake Raymond makes this team, but it truly was a stunning team effort by Bond University’s backline to capitalise on the work of forwards Will Carter, Harry Bell, Oli Barrett, Charles McCauley and Co.
Raymond was outstanding, scoring one of the best tries this season (assisted by Kade Robson) and was a terrific support player and cover defender while being safe as a bank under the high ball. Raymond is a terrific club player for Bond.
10 Netani Lesimaikimatuku (Sunnybank)
Impressive Sunnybank utility back Netani Lesimaikimatuku had a cracker at fly half, slotting four-from-five on conversions, kicking wonderfully for territory and play making for DJ Manase, Daniel Malum and other dangerous Sunnybank outside backs.
Lesimaikimatuku has more flare than your usual fly half and when needed, used his running ability to mount momentum for the home side.
9 James Martens (Wests)
This guy is just a game changer.
He is an asset to whatever team he is on and against Norths on the Hugh Courtney turf, Martens influenced the game with his elite service from the ruck and quick ball.
The BBC old boy challenged Norths’ defence near the breakdown and had the vision to spot the gaps one play ahead.
8 Jackson Moloney (Easts)
If you were at University wondering who the headgear wearing big man from Easts was he goes by the name of Jackson Moloney.
A high achieving Villanova College product, Moloney was injured to begin the year and warmed his engines in Colts 2 but has got his shot in the top team under coach Jack Richards and is making that No. 8 jersey his own.
They are big shoes to fill after PJ Su’a (Top 14) run amok earlier this season but Moloney keeps improving and on Saturday scored a crucial try to put space between the two sides heading into the final 10 minutes.
7 Cooper Cameron (Brothers)
Providing a similar impact to Martens, Brothers breakaway Cooper Cameron was a difference maker in a tight one at Sunnybank.
With a top four spot inspiring him, Cameron produced a superb all-around effort which featured a timely win at the breakdown when the Dragons were closing in.
Cameron is renowned for his breakdown work, but showed another dimension of his game on Saturday with his dynamic running through the middle of the field – which was seen during his days playing for Nudgee.
6 Noah Rauluni (Easts)
Easts were blessed to have Nudgee premiership winner Rauluni in their backrow.
He is a flanker but plays like an outside back and on Saturday produced an eyebrow raising offload while being dragged into touch which led to an Archie Xavier try.
He is a freak of nature.
5 Ben Daniels (Brothers)
Representative lock Ben Daniels, a Churchie old boy, had himself a beauty at the ‘Bank to power the Brethren to a seven point victory.
With Ben Pula-Fatu, Cameron and Charlie Stack also on their game, set piece weapon Daniels impacted the match in just about every aspect.
In the lineout he was top tier and his workrate set a high standard for his pack to follow.
4 Ben Kluck (Norths)
The efforts of lineout ace Ben Kluck did not go unnoticed in a tough outing against Wests on Saturday.
The hardworking Nudgee alumni was all effort, in the set piece and on defence where he had to deal with big bodies Jack Spencer, Regin Pratt, Rory Bliss and Will Pascoe coming his way.
3. Harry Bell (Bond Uni)
Promising tighthead prop Harry Bell responded after a down week in round 13 with a dominant showing in Ashgrove.
Bell blitzed the Gallopers in the scrum and rolling maul, snaring a well earned try late in the game after building a nice platform for goalkicking halfback Sam Howarth and Year 12 fly half Callum Simpson.
2. Ewald Kruger (GPS)
A thorough professional, Toowoomba Grammar School old boy Kruger maintained a high standard in a side which bailed water against a rising Bond outfit. GPS have been fortunate to have him this season.
1 Jack Spencer (Norths)
Wests came to play in an away game and at the centre of their set piece was loosehead prop Jack Spencer, a quality player who would not be out of place in first grade.
Spencer drove the rolling maul forward and pounded away at tired bodies before Will Pascoe and Charlie Cooke swooped to score.
RESERVES
Kobe Waikato (Bond University)
A dreadfully unlucky omission, the masterful Kiwi midfielder has been on a tear over the last 4-6 weeks and he maintained the rage at Yoku road on Saturday to help guide his side to a 45-10 win.
Waikato played inside centre and scored a try, had touches in many others and challenged GPS’ midfield defence with his straight running.
