Brenko and Edrick Lee emerged from playing touch football games as children in Orchid St Woodridge to shine for Queensland in last season’s upset victory over New South Wales in Game 3.

Souths Logan halfback Mam, who was the baby of the touch football matches involving the Lees, said seeing his cousins rise to Origin fame made him realise that dreams can come true.

“To see your family members playing at that level, you know it is possible,’’ the Marsden SHS trainee youth worker said.

“You know they are not superheroes. You know they are just normal people and it makes you believe.’’

Mam said Brenko was the leader of the pack during the street football matches and it was amazing to think he and Edrick would play in a Origin decider at Suncorp Stadium.

“The house was crazy,’’ Mam said, recalling the excitement around Origin No.3 last November.

“We had a gazebo set up. When Edrick scored that try, there was so much energy. His parents were running around excited.’’

He wants to be a youth worker, and at the moment is gathering valuable on the job experience working with the indigenous unit at Marsden SHS where he said “there is a really good vibe and great spirit’’.

On the football front, there are times when he looks like a man playing among boys for the Souths Logan Magpies in the Meninga Cup and his promotion into the top tier Souths Logan Intrust Super Cup side would not surprise.

The Broncos have acknowledged his promise, signing him to a junior contract. “They really look after you mentally and care about you off the field as well,’’ said Mam, who in 2018 helped Queensland win the national under 15 carnival, leading to his selection in the Australian merit team.
