Adelaide Bite has demonstrated its commitment to building on last season’s progress by re-signing manager Chris Adamson for the next two Australian Baseball League campaigns.

The SA club extended the tenure of the 31-year-old mentor after he guided it to within a whisker of a playoff appearance 12 months after claiming the wooden spoon.

Bite general manager Nathan Davison said Adamson had brought the best out of both promising youngsters and international veterans during his time at the helm.

“This season we brought in some of the best young Australian talent and Chris put together a line-up that clicked early on and formed close bonds,” Davison said.

“It’s always tough to build team unity with such a short pre-season, but he’s someone who has such a great understanding of what it means to be a team.

“Chris brings the best out of our guys to achieve their goals and the team’s goals, and we know moving forward he will take us to the next level.

“Baseball in South Australia has a proud history and this team has all the right pieces to find success in the ABL.”

Adamson, who took over as manager for the start of the 2017/18 campaign, led Adelaide to a 19-21 record this past summer to finish third in the Southwest conference.

The 130-game former Bite player blooded top local talent such as Jordan McArdle and Curtis Mead, helping the duo advance to US Major League careers.

He also attracted a batch of standout imports, including league MVP Markus Solbach and hitter of the year Mikey Reynolds, both of whom had re-signed for next season.

“He’s the youngest head coach I’ve had, so it was weird at first having someone so close to me in age in charge,” American shortstop Reynolds, 28, said.

“Then I got to know him and saw the high quality coaching characteristics he possesses.

“He’s a natural leader and blends in as one of the boys we want to go to war with (on the field).”

Adamson is currently in the US working with up-and-coming prospects during MLB outfit Texas Rangers’ extended spring training.

He has already secured the services of Australian internationals Aaron Whitefield and Mitch Edwards for the Bite for next campaign.
