Adelaide Bite baseballer Troy Scott arrested after on-field brawl at Norwood Oval

UPDATED: AN ADELAIDE Bite baseballer has been charged with assault after a mass on-field brawl left an opposition player with facial injuries this month.

AN ADELAIDE Bite baseballer has been charged with assault after a mass on-field brawl left an opposition player with facial injuries this month.

Pitcher Troy Scott was arrested yesterday and spent about two hours at the Police City Watch House and offered no comment after being released just after 4pm.

Scott, 21, has been charged with one count of assault causing harm and will face the Adelaide Magistrates Court next Tuesday

The Bite’s general manager Nathan Davison confirmed Scott had been arrested.

“We can confirm Troy Scott was arrested in relation to an incident, however, he was immediately released on bail,’’ Davison said.

“The matters is currently in the hands of authorities and as such ABL are unable to make any specific comment in relation to the incident. “

Scott will face court only three days before the Bite take part in the Championship Series against either Perth or Sydney.

The charge is a rare case of an incident on a professional sporting field becoming a criminal matter.

In 1985 Hawthorn superstar Leigh Matthews was convicted of assault following an incident which left Neville Bruns with a broken jaw in a VFL match between Geelong and Hawthorn.

The case relates to a bench-clearing brawl in the Bite’s match against the Melbourne Aces at Norwood on January 16, sparked when Melbourne’s veteran and former Major League player Brad Harman was hit by a pitch from the Bite’s Tony Vocca.

Scott is part of US Major League club the Seattle Mariners system and joined the Bite this season.

Scott, who was originally banned for a league-record six matches, had his contract terminated by the ABL on January 22. He will take no part in the final series.

It is understood Deglan received facial injuries requiring dental work and gave a statement to police in relation to the incident

Davison confirmed the charges were in relation to Aces-Bite match.

He was confident Scott’s arrest and subsequent court hearing would not distract the Bite from its first ever championships series at Norwood against wither Perth or Sydney from March 6-8.

Police released a statement confirming a 21-year old Glenunga man had been charged over the brawl.
