SA Short Course Swimming Championships live streamed by The Advertiser on Saturday-Sunday

The state’s best young swimming talent will return to the pool for the SA Short Course Championships and you can catch every race in our exclusive live stream of this weekend’s titles. HOW TO WATCH

Countdown to Tokyo 2021: Kyle Chalmers

Virtual training sessions will be replaced by races streamed live to the world for SA’s most promising young swimmers this weekend.

Forced to workout and keep in touch with their clubs remotely via video conferencing platforms during the coronavirus shutdown, young athletes will be plunged back into competition at the 13 years and under State Short Course Championships.

Every race across the Saturday-Sunday titles will also be exclusively live streamed on advertiser.com.au, broadcasting the event to new online audiences.

Piper Cameron, who competes for Clovercrest Swimming Club, was set to feature in a packed program at the SA Leisure and Aquatic Centre.

“There’s the 50 (metre) free, 50 back, 50 fly and a lot of 100 events,’’ Piper, 10, said.

“I just love swimming. It’s a great sport and I want to follow my sisters (and fellow simmers) Hannah and Amber.’’

Onkaparinga’s Noah Fillmore, 11, has only been involved in the sport for two years, but was hopeful of doing his best at Marion.

He would also take inspiration from his favourite swimmer, Rio Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Jake Packard.

“He (Jake) saw me in a butterfly race and after we got talking he just gave me one of his gold medals,” Noah recalled.

“That was great of him.”

Marion members Joshua Jansen-Merlin and Charlotte Conroy were also thrilled to return to familiar surroundings for the back-to-back days of non-stop action.

With a schedule of at least 10 events each, the duo was looking forward to testing themselves against some tough opposition.

Junior captain Charlotte, 12, demonstrated her sense of humour when in lockdown, winning a club meme competition.

In it she described Olympic champion and fellow Marion member Kyle Chalmers’ opposition in an race as “some dude”, “not Chalmers’’ and “who is this?’’.

Joshua, also 12, was just happy to be back in the pool after a long lay off.

“I absolutely love the club,” said Joshua, who learned to swim aged six months.

“If I could make a final, that would be great.”

Morning sessions run from 9am-noon daily, while the evening program is set for 5pm-8pm.

The 14 and over State Short Course Championships will also be live streamed by The Advertiser on October 2-4.
