NSW Schools Championships rugby league livestream: How to watch, schedule, full teams

The best schoolboy rugby league players will battle it out next week in the NSW Schools Championship – and you can watch it all here. Full preview and teams.

Some of NSW’s most exciting schoolboy league and union players across two age-groups will be chasing spots in the Australian Schoolboys rugby league team when they line up in an all-star carnival next week.

The NRL have created the 15s and 18s NSW Schools Championships, with representative teams from Combined Independent Schools, Combined High Schools and Combined Catholic Colleges to compete in a three-day tournament from June 22-24.

All six NSW Schools Championships matches will be livestreamed from St Mary’s Stadium exclusively for dailytelegraph.com.au subscribers.

A host of stars from the NRL Schoolboy Cup will feature, along with some of the best private school rugby players representing CIS.

The son of John Hopoate is one potential code hopper in the CIS 18s side.

Lehi Hopoate will join the representative side that has produced a number of talented dual-coders, headlined by the Sydney Roosters Joseph Suaalii and Wests Tigers Adam Doueihi.

The CIS 15s side showcases students from traditional rugby schools who are also touted as rising stars in the league code.

Many of the players selected are part of NRL team’s junior development programs: three represent the junior Roosters side, with other players from Eels, Tigers and Bulldogs development teams.

Newington College, a powerhouse rugby school in the NSW GPS competition, will have four players in the CIS 15s competition.

Daniel Fetaiki Lua, 15, is a standout from the Newington quartet and a member of the Bulldogs’ U15s. He also plays for the Hills Rugby Club.

Scots College, another school in the GPS rugby competition, boast three students in the NSW championships. They are headed by Finnlay Bartlett, who played representative rugby at a young age for NSW CIS sides as well as the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia.

For the NSWCCC U15s, Hokafonu Lemoto is expected to have a big carnival. The 15-year-old plays division one club rugby league for the Minchinbury Jet’s and his recent from has earned a spot in the decorated Penrith Panthers’ U15s squad.

The NSW Schools Championships was put in place after Covid restrictions led to the National Schools Championships, that run annually, to be cancelled in 2020.

The format runs with an under-15s match followed by the under-18s game every day from Tuesday – Thursday in a round-robin format.

Queensland Rugby League held a similar carnival last month where Australian schoolboy selectors were present. They’ll also be sideline at the NSW championships.

School rugby league players from other states compete as the Combined Affiliated States and had their chance to impress Australian schoolboys’ selectors at a training camp prior to Origin I.
