Olympic hockey hopefuls Miki Spano and Hattie Shand are preparing for one of the most hectic months of their lives.
The pair will be aiming to help Adelaide win back-to-back SA women’s Premier League grand finals this Saturday.
Five days later, they will fly to Perth for a national team camp which will act as a selection trial for the 2021 Tokyo Games.
Spano and Shand are just two of the stars set to showcase their talents in the premiership decider against Port Adelaide, to be live streamed on advertiser.com.au.
Spano was looking forward to the Hockeyroos camp, but had her eyes firmly fixed on more silverware with Adelaide.
The 23-year-old has family interstate and overseas, so The Advertiser’s live coverage will give her loved ones a chance to watch her in action.
“We are very excited and very confident,” Spano said.
“We’ve had such a good year and we are so thankful to be able to play off for a premiership again.
“It will mean a lot to win.
“I think (live streaming) is an amazing opportunity.
“I’ve got family in Melbourne and family in the Netherlands who will all want to tune in and support, especially my Melbourne family who are still going through a tough time.”
Before taking part in the Australian camp, the duo must undergo 14 days of quarantine in an Airbnb due to WA’s border restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Shand’s family owns a sheep farm just over the Victorian border near Naracoorte.
She was grateful her relatives could cheer her on via the live stream, as they were unable to attend the State Hockey Centre grand final.
“My dad, Stuart Shand, is a huge hockey supporter and loves watching everything I do, so he’s excited,” she said.
Shand, who claimed her club’s best and fairest last season, was one of two juniors selected for the national training camp.
“I’m super excited and when it got announced, I was quite shocked,” Shand said.
“I’ve got nothing to lose and I’m a super competitive person, so I think in that environment, I’ll rise to their level.”
The SA women’s Premier League grand final will be live streamed on advertiser.com.au at 4pm on Saturday.
Adelaide will take on Seacliff in the men’s decider, also to be broadcast by The Advertiser, from 6pm.
