Queensland have completed a dirty day for NSW by claiming the girls’ leg of the Under-15 National Teams Tennis Championships on the back of a classy doubles display.
Forced to take it to the deciding doubles match after the two states split the singles rubbers one-all, the Queenslanders proved too strong as they raced to a straight-sets victory.
The 6-4, 6-4 result and subsequent grand final defeat was a bitter pill for NSW as the state also came up short in the boys’ decider.
Gina Cha and Georgia Campbell set the tone early in the doubles against Vesna Marinkov and Jizelle Sibai when they took out the opening set 6-4.

DAY FOUR ROUND-UP CONTINUED
They then raced out to a 3-0 lead in the second set before NSW fought back to tie it up at 4-4.
But the Queensland pair was having none of it, as they held serve and then broke NSW in the very next game to claim the match in 1hr17min.
Earlier, Campbell overcame Sibai in three sets to give Queensland first blood in the singles.
Campbell and Sibai waged a fierce battle in the opening set, with the former emerging on top in a tiebreaker.
Sibai then found plenty to level the sets at one-all with a 6-3 return in the second before Campbell returned the favour in the third to claim the match.
Emilie Chen would level up the grand final with a demolition job of Tori Russell in the second singles match-up.
It was all one-way traffic as Chen never allowed her opponent to get into the match, winning easily 6-4, 6-0.
The doubles would be of a similar vein as Queensland took in consecutive sets.
Victoria’s Ymerali Ibraimi and Nikolas Baker have lived up to their top seed ranking with a dominant 2-0 victory against NSW in the boys’ grand final.
With the John Reid Cup at stake on the Gold Coast, the highly rated Victorians proved too classy for a spirited New South Wales outfit.
Nikolas Baker was pushed hard by Har Abir Sekhon in an entertaining match played mostly from the baseline before emerging with a 6-3 5-7 6-2 result.
A fired up Sekhon threw everything at Baker, but the Victorian’s calm head prevailed as Sekhon became more and more frustrated as the contest wore on.
Sekhon staged a thrilling comeback in the second set when Baker was serving for the match at 5-4.
Winning that game and the next two, Sekhon looked in total control when he took the set 7-5.
But Baker’s composure in the deciding set proved the difference as he broke his opponent twice en route to victory.
Earlier, rising star Ymerali Ibraimi was too powerful for Ethan Domingo, winning in straight sets.
Ibraimi worked hard in the first set to gain ascendancy, taking it 7-5 before racing through the second one for a 6-2 result.

DAY 3 ROUND-UP
On Saturday, Queensland’s Lucas Han would have walked off the court knowing he threw everything he could at Victorian Nikolas Baker in the boys semifinal.
Baker was pushed in the opening set before winning the match in three sets, claiming a 6-7 6-2 6-1 match.
Han lost the opening break in the first set but clawed it back to take it to a tie-breaker in the opening set, eventually winning it 7-4 in the tie-break to claim a 7-6 set.
But it was all Baker from there who used the court to his full advantage with incredible use of the lines and depth shots.
Baker continually owned the second and third set as he spent majority of his time centred at the back of the base line while forcing Han to run from tram line to tram line.

The home side have clawed their way through the rounbd stages undefeated after pulling out all the stops in an epic tie against Victoria on Friday.
The Queenslanders had to reach deep down into the never-say-die attitude which has typified the state on the sporting stage, and it was never as evident as during Tori Russell’s epic third set comeback in the second singles clash.
After dropping the second set of her clash with Gurmanat Kaur Sandhu 6-1, and staring down the barrel of losing the best-of-three tie in straight matches, Russell found an extra gear to come over the top of her rival in 11-9 in an epic tiebreaker set.
It set the tone for the doubles match decider, which like the two previous singles games, was also forced to a deciding tie-breaker set after a stiring mid-match momentum shift.
In the end it was the Queensland team of Geina Cha and Georgina Campbell who managed to keep their composure late in the match to walk away with a tournament-defining 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 win.
It was double delight for the maroons on Friday, with the boys under-15 side cruising to a fantastic 3-0 win over Tasmania in their afternoon tie.
While the two singles contests had to be moved from the show court, due to the nearly four-and-a-half hour girls tie, the Queenslanders managed to bring the night home with a brilliant doubles display.
William Genberg and Heaton Pann joined forces to topple the Tasmanian team of George Goddard and Zaviour Targett in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
All three matches were finished in straight sets by the Queenslanders, as they bounced back in a big way after going down to South Australia 2-1 earlier in the day.
