City-Bay Fun Run men’s winner Jack Rayner says the art of distraction is his secret weapon after claiming this year’s edition of the famous road race in Adelaide.
Already a dual winner of the half marathon, an exhausted Rayner said he thrilled to claim it for the third time.
“I try to distract myself as much as possible,” he said. “(I) just look at all the supporters on the sideline.”
The 27-year-old Rayner previously won the City-Bay in 2018 and last year.
Australian Olympian Genevieve Gregson was the first woman over the line.
The Queenslander said she was determined to not only win but to post a good time.

PREVIEW
The streets of Adelaide will be filled by the thundering sounds of thousands of runners tackling the annual Lumary City-Bay Fun Run on Sunday.
For the second straight year, KommunityTV cameras will be trained on Colley Terrace in Glenelg to capture the moment that every runner crosses the finish line.
The exclusive live stream of the City-Bay finish line will start from 7am, and will cover the moment of elation for every runner entered in the city’s iconic running event across the 3km, 6km, 12km and half marathon distances.
The City-Bay Fun Run doubles as part of the Australian Road Running National Championships, with some of the nation’s top distance runners taking to the streets of Adelaide.
While the elite runners will cross the line first, race director Joe Stevens reminded entrants that the aim of the game was in the name.
“It is a fun run, we want people to get out and have a good time,” he said.
“We think there will be a few late entries to come in, once people know the weather is going to be nice, they will be ready to get involved.”
Over 14,000 runners have already entered for the City-Bay Fun Run, with entries closing on Saturday.
