A scintillating sprint from Victorian ace Cooper Brancatisano set the tone for the speeders to strut their stuff on day two of the Australian Little Athletics Championships.
The three age divisions featured finals for the blue ribbon event, the 100m dash, but it was Brancatisano who turned the U15 boys division into a one-act affair.
A hot start saw the Victorian race out of the blocks to take an early lead that he would not relinquish, finishing with a hot time of 11.04 to finish 0.3 seconds ahead of the next best.
The U15 girls went the way of Western Australia, with Kate Philpott proving too strong for a good field, taking the gold in 12.06, just 0.15 seconds off the Amaya Mearns’ record.
Divine Chukwudi of New South Wales had to dig deep to claim gold in the U13 girls division of the 100m.
Queensland’s Cassia McLean put in a spirited run and held a slender lead midway through the race, before Chukwudi went into overdrive to win in 12.23.
Jacob Kopp completed the NSW sweep in the U13s by taking the boys crown with a blistering run of 11.43.
The NSW dominance continued in the U14s, with Avie Russell taking gold in the girls division (12.33) before the finish of the day in the boys.
Darcy Coote (NSW) and Ned Amorsen (Queensland) were neck and neck for the length of the straight, before Coote got the bob in to claim victory by one hundredth of a second in 11.37.

DAY ONE REVIEW
Victorian sprinter Kevin De Silva set the scene at the Little Athletics nationals long before his glorious victory in under-14 boys 200m final when he indulged in some mid-race banter with a heat rival.
It was pure entertainment and harmless fun as he and New South Wales runner Ashton Foley chatted from adjoining lanes as they raced clear down the home straight.
The final would always be a much more serious affair. But De Silva wasn’t to be perturbed, as he claimed back-to-back wins in his age group. His time was 22.99sec.
The Victorian took out the under-13 boys event last year.

He also claimed the 100m event on the same program and whether he can achieve the double again on Day 2 will be one of the many highlights of Sunday’s action from Adelaide.

This year it has been expanded to three individual streams and will include the closing ceremony.
In other 200m action, fellow Victoria Cooper Brancatisano led from gun to tap in the under-15 boys final, extending his margin to several metres from teammate James Denton in a time of 22.72sec.
The finish of under-15 girls was much closer, with only 0.01sec separating top pair Lillia Giannakis, of South Australia, and Kate Philpott, of Western Australia.
The two youngsters finished more than a second ahead of the rest of the field, with the winning time 24.63sec.
Ruth Ifejika was far too strong in the under-14 girls final, clearing out to win in 25.74sec.
New South Wales sprinter Jacob Copp dominated the under-13 boys final, winning in 23.57sec, while Victorian Jamie Ritchie took out the girls in 25.36sec.

News Sport Network Managing Director Michael Wilkins said the renewal of KommunityTV’s live stream deal with Little Athletics Australia provided an exciting glimpse at the nation’s future sports stars.
“Our partnership with Little Athletics Australia got off to a fantastic start with last year’s Australian championships, but this isn’t a 100m sprint,” Wilkins said.
“This will be a marathon collaboration, which is demonstrated by our commitment to work with LAA for the next two years.
“Our desire is to showcase the future of the sport, and provide that link from grassroots to the elite levels of competition. With Paris 2024 around the corner and News Corp Australia’s proud team partnership with our Olympians, it only adds to the excitement of our relationship.
“Little Athletics is a rite of passage for most young Australians and the Australian Little Athletics Championships are the pinnacle event on the calendar. We look forward to watching the best young athletes run, jump, hurdle and vault their way to success.”
Coles Little Athletics Australia chief executive officer Myles Foreman said the extension of the partnership with KommunityTV would build upon a fantastic start in 2023.
“In 2024, a third stream will be added to enhance coverage with stream one covering opening
ceremony, all track events and closing ceremony, stream two covering selected field events and stream three covering more field events and medal presentations,” he said.
