Live stream: Adelaide/Hobart Jets face Cronulla Sharks in Australian Water Polo League Week Three

William Dayman scored in his milestone match, but it wasn’t nearly enough to prevent yet more Adelaide AWL woe as the Sharks hit the net 33 times in the double-header. Check out the REPLAYS.

Adelaide’s long wait for their opening win of the men’s 2024 Australian Water Polo League season continues after Cronulla cruised to a 16-6 victory on Saturday evening.

Sam Winchester scored four times and Rory McKell three as the Sharks raced out to a 10-1 halftime victory before cruising home in the second half.

The defeat leaves the Jets without a win in seven attempts, and while they put up a much more competitive showing in the second half as both Tyler Krenkels and Daniel Hall scored doubles, they were off the pace for much of the game.

Earlier, the Jets women’s team conceded 12 goals before halftime - seven in the first quarter alone - as Cronulla’s women edged their clash 17-13.

Goals were certainly not in short supply as both defences, not for the first time this season, struggled to contain rampant shooters.

The Sharks took their record to four wins, three losses, but they were outscored 7-5 in the second half as the home side threatened, at times, to make a tighter game of it.

Nine players got on the scoresheet for Cronulla, with Danijela Jackovich scoring four and Keira Rippon and Lily Wirth grabbing three each

For the winless Jets, the result represented their biggest goal of the season to date - and something to build on ahead of a four-game trip to Newcastle and Sydney.

PREVIEW

After a decade in the water for the Jets, William Dayman has never lost sight of what made him pull on a swim cap in the first place.

The Adelaide veteran will celebrate a special milestone when the Jets play host to the Cronulla Sharks in the fourth week of the Australian Water Polo League on Saturday and Sunday.

Dayman joins the illustrious 200-game club this weekend, with all of his previous clashes coming under the red cap for one simple reason.

“Adelaide is where I grew up,” Dayman said.

“I love the team, I love water polo and I just love living here.”

The Jets double-header against the Sharks will be exclusively LIVE STREAMED on KommunityTV as part of our match of the round coverage, with the women’s team kicking off the action from 4pm (ACST).

A lot has changed for Dayman since his league debut, especially of late after he and his partner welcoming their first child.

“It’s harder to be as committed as I once was, but I still have something to offer,” he said.

“I had a kid about six weeks ago, too, so that’s made it harder.

“He wasn’t even four weeks old when I had to leave to go to WA for a game. Last weekend I wasn’t able to go away because my partner had something important on, so I was looking after the baby.”

As he reaches the 200-game milestone, Dayman said he’s not sure how much longer he’ll be in the pool, but he wants to stay involved with the sport.

“Water polo is a part of my life and I don’t ever see myself fully stepping away,” Dayman said.

“I’m happy to stay and help out at training and help around the club.

“Life gets in the way a lot but you try your best.”

The love of water polo hasn’t just been contained to the pool, with his passion flowing out onto the pool deck in roles as coach at Prince Alfred College and with the South Australian state 15-and-under side.

“I really enjoyed coaching the state team,” Dayman said.

“I was able to get to know some of the younger kids in the community and their families.

“I like that there’s a lot of kids here aspiring to do something with water polo and they can look up to the national league team.”
