The Flying Mullet is back with Rohan Browning making a scorching return to the track in Adelaide.

Australia’s fastest man was a class above his rivals, clocking an impressive 10.12sec (wind +0.9) in his opening hitout of the season.

Browning, 24, showed he was ready to keep his career momentum rolling after a breakthrough performance at last year’s Tokyo Olympics.

The Sydney law student stunned the world by winning his opening Olympic heat in 10.01sec before backing it up by clocking 10.09sec in the semi-final.

While his short-term aim is next month’s world indoor championships in Belgrade, Serbia, Browning showed he’d come back in excellent shape.

“We are all geared towards the 60 metres so I don’t have the tank after that,” he said. “I haven’t done too much work over 60 to 80 metres so I definitely felt it in the back end.”

Browning did manage to get some revenge over his junior rival Jack Hale who finished third in 10.26sec with New Zealand’s Edward Osei-Niketia (10.19sec) second.

Back in 2014 Browning and Hale made headlines around the country in the fastest junior race in history on the Adelaide track.

The 16-year-olds shattered the clock at the Australian All Schools Championships with Hale (10.13sec) running down Browning over the last few metres (10.18sec).

“This is the firs race I have ever won in Adelaide,” Browning said about his first race in Adelaide since 2015. “It was good to come back as it is a bit of a special place for me.”

Australia’s other Tokyo hero Peter Bol also kicked his season off in fine fashion, cruising home in the 800m.

Bol, who finished fourth in the Olympic final, pulled clear comfortably over the final 50m to win his first race of the 2022 season in 1min47.14sec.

“It was a good race, perfect weather and it was good to be back,” Bol said. “No game plan, just run and look ahead to the next few coming up.”

His training partner Bendere Oboya, who moved down to Melbourne this year to join Justin Rinald’s training group, made a successful debut over the 800m.

The Tokyo Olympian in the 400m stepped up in distance and she managed to hold on in a thrilling finish to win in 2min02.88sec, just .01sec ahead of Victoria’s Tess Kirsopp-Cole.

In the women’s sprints Queensland’s Ella Connolly (11.37sec) upstaged Riley Day (11.40sec) in the 100m but the result was reversed in the 200m.

Day, who made a statement at the Tokyo Games by making the 200m semi-finals, surged clear to win a slick time of 22.99sec.

“It is a lot harder than I remember,” Day said. “The last 200m I did was at the Olympics so I’m really happy with that opener.”

Young gun Aidan Murphy, the son of former star Tania Van Heer, dominated the men’s 200m running 20.66sec.
