West Coast Fever is primed for a dual championship attack after its Super Netball reserves team secured the minor premiership ahead of this week’s final round of the regular season.
The Fever Reserves claimed back-to-back wins in the penultimate round against the Swifts Academy (56-55) and a big victory over the winless Giants Netball Reserves (62-42) to move two games clear on top of the ladder with one round to play.
It means the Fever have already locked up one spot in the grand final, which will headline a big weekend of Super Netball Reserves finals series in Melbourne.
Every match of the Super Netball Reserves finals series, including the play-in tournament, will be exclusively live streamed on Code Sports and KommunityTV.

With one round of the season remaining the Fever cannot be topped, with the second and third-placed Queensland Firebirds Futures and Adelaide Thunderbirds left to watch on this weekend after already playing their seven games this season.
The fourth-placed Melbourne Mavericks Reserves and fifth-placed Swifts Academy still have two games to play in the final round, but won’t catch the Fever even if they win both of their remaining games.
West Coast Fever’s Reserves minor premiership comes after the club’s Super Netball team enhanced its championship credentials when it became the first team this year to defeat the previously unbeaten NSW Swifts in their top-of-the-table clash last round.
The Fever Reserves play their final match of the season against the Vixens Academy at the State Netball Centre in Melbourne on Saturday night.
Fever Reserves coach Guy Keane said the team would use the final round to prepare for the gold medal match as it waited to find out who its opponents would be.
“We’re really happy with how our West Coast Fever Reserves have competed on the national stage with a combination of our WA up-and-coming pathway athletes as well as some opportunities for the Fever athletes to drop back and contribute as well,” Keane said.
“We’re really excited that we get to go into this weekend knowing that we can’t come off top spot and can prepare for the finals weekend.
“Coming off last year’s (Super Netball Reserves) pilot program where we also finished on top of the ladder, it has been a really successful two years with our program here.
“It now gives us an opportunity to see where we’re at against the Vixens Academy on the weekend and potentially play a few combinations we haven’t explored too much throughout the rounds in preparation for a big game in the gold medal match on the finals weekend.
“It’s still to be determined who we play, but we’ll prepare for both for that weekend.”
West Coast Fever’s reserves team has featured cameos from Super Netball listed players, including midcourter Zoe Cransberg, Olivia Wilkinson and Fran Williams.
“We’ve been lucky enough with the draw to have opportunities for the West Coast Fever athletes to drop back,” Keane said.
“Zoe Cransberg is one of those players that has probably played more than any of the other ones and when she has been able to drop back, she has really led from the front.
“We’ve been lucky enough to have Liv for a couple of games and also Fran for one game as well. Outside of the Fever group, we have been really impressed with our West Coast Fever training partners Caitlyn Brown and Sloan Burton have also really stepped up.
“Some of our younger players …. the likes of Jas Haywood, our goal shooter who has been coming back after 18 months out of the game through a knee injury, Clara Wigley, who has just turned 18 this year, as well as Scarlet Jauncey, who is in the Black Swans national team, are playing some really great netball as well.”
Keane said the West Coast Fever Reserves and Super Netball side worked together to foster a successful environment.
“We have the one-club philosophy and we are fully integrated into the West Coast Fever program, we train alongside each other on two courts next to each other on a Thursday night for our main training session,” Keane said.
“We do our captain’s runs together, the athletes are in and around the environment and fully engaged with each other … it’s a super connected environment which I think is why we have been able to have some of that success on and off the court.”
The Super Netball Reserves season will finish with a play-in tournament and finals weekend at Waverley Netball Centre next week.
Tasmania Wild, Capital Darters and the Territory Storm will feature in the play-in tournament from June 16-18, playing once against each other across three days.
The results from these matches will be used to determine their match-ups against Super Netball Reserves teams during the finals weekend.
There will be a third-place playoff on Saturday, June 21, while the first and second-ranked teams on the ladder will face off in the grand final on June 22.
Thunderbirds’ goaler Lucy Austin leads the goal scoring ahead of the final round of the season on 231.
