DAY 2 WRAP

Another dominating performance from the Capital Darters has them locked into finish on top of the Super Netball reserves play-in tournament.

The Darters powerful second-half performance in Tuesday’s 63-36 win over Territory Storm was enough to lock them into top spot after also winning Monday’s clash against Tasmania Wild.

The Storm and Wild will face off on Wednesday searching for their first win.

After winning by 30 goals against Tasmania, Tuesday’s clash appeared like it was going to be a much tighter affair for the Darters.

A first-quarter full of momentum swings saw the scores locked at 12-12 at quarter-time before the Darters took a one-goal lead into the main break.

It was then that the floodgates well and truly opened.

An 18-8 third-term, followed by a 21-5 last-quarter, saw the eventual victors win the second-half 39-13 in a powerful display on both ends of the court.

After the one-two punch of Amber Brophy and Jacoba Clough dominated on Monday, it was fellow shooter Nalani Makunde that finished as the Darters top scorer with 18.

Brophy (14) and Clough (16) were also once again prolific in the circle.

Eliza Burton was one of Capital’s best throughout, providing plenty of run and drive through the middle of the court, while defensive duo Jasmine Fraser and Violet Wetsteyn were arguably the Darters two best players given the second-half dominance.

DAY 1 WRAP

The one-two attacking punch of Amber Brophy and Jacoba Clough has put the Capital Darters in the box seat to finish on top of the Super Netball reserves play-in tournament.

The pair, who split time at goal attack, dominated the shooting circle as the Darters claimed a monster 30-goal win in the tournament opener against Tasmania.

Working alongside Queensland state league shooter Nalani Makunde (32 goals) in the circle, both Brophy and Clough were dogged in their work to clean up rebounds and loose balls.

But it was also their work from deep, taking advantage of the Super Shot rule which helped the girls from the ACT blow their rivals off the court.

The Darters established a 15-goal lead by the first quarter, and were never headed as they ran away with a 72-42 win.

The ACT side had established a 40-goal lead midway through the final quarter, before some outstanding late shooting gave the young Tasmanian side something to build on.

While the result will be tough for the Wild side, there were several bright spots including the injection of under-17s National Netball Championships MVP Sophie Sherriff.

Playing alongside older sister, Isabella, the younger Sherriff scored 10 goals in a blistering second-half cameo.

The Wild, which is made up of mainly teenage rising stars, will look to build off its final quarter fight back, only conceding the quarter 12-10 in the end.

PREVIEW

Queenslander Chloe Litherland will help usher in a new era for netball in Australia as she leads Tasmania Wild into battle in an expended Super Netball Reserves finals.

The Wild will open up a massive week of finals action when they clash with the Capital Darters in the SSN Reserves finals play-in tournament on Monday.

The play-in tournament, which features the Wild, Darters and Territory Storm will be played across three days with every match exclusively live streamed on Code Sports and KommunityTV.

Check out the draw below and watch the action live in the video payer above.

The tournament will act as a lead-in to the SSN Reserves finals series this weekend, with the results of the matches having a bearing on the weekend’s action.

Litherland is among a heavy contingent of interstate raiders among the state sides competing at the tournament after joining the Kingston Blues in the TNL this season.

The Wild skipper relished the opportunity to be part of the tournament as she believed the exposure to the high standards of Super Netball would only benefit a Tasmanian side which has relied heavily on an emerging group of teen talents.

The Capital Darters, who the Wild will clash with in Monday’s opener, also feature a couple of interstate talents with Brisbane North Cougars shooter Nalani Makunde pulling on the pink of her home state.

Makunde isn’t the only former ACT athlete who will return from interstate leagues with Jacoba Clough (Tango, Netball SA), Milla Papallo (UTS Randwick Sparks, NSW), Olivia Clark (South West Mounties Magic, NSW), Eliza Bruton (North Shore United, NSW) and Jasmine Fraser (Western Warriors, VIC) among the squad.

For the Territory Storm, midcourt rising stars Mackenzie Lynch and Taylah Easton have been brought up from the state’s Under-19 ranks for the tournament.

The Territory Storm also possess a couple of interstate players including Perth-based Australian Black Swans representative stars Jamaica Jauncey and Tierrah Miller.
