Tango, in the thick of the battle for the top four places, needed a win but could hold their heads high after a promising performance, which included leading by four goals in the final quarter.

The victory further solidified Contax’s postition on top of the ladder.

In the reserves match, the Blues comfortably took care of Tango in a xx-xx win.

THE RUN HOME: WHO WILL MAKE PREMIER LEAGUE NETBALL FINALS?

1 – Contax

20 points (10 wins, one loss, 159.25 per cent)

Run home: Tango, South Adelaide, Oakdale

The winning streak now stands at 10 for the all-conquering Contax and it looks unlikely to stop anytime soon.

After being beaten by Matrics in the opening round, no team has come within 17 goals of the reigning premier Blues since in a string of convincing results.

A finals berth is assured and a top two spot also close to being sealed with games against the fourth, fifth and sixth-ranked sides to finish.

While those three – Tango, South Adelaide and Oakdale – will have more to play for as they fight to finish inside the top four, you would expect the professional Contax to still get the job done and finish the minor rounds strong.

2 – Matrics

16 points (eight wins, two losses, 141.67 per cent)

Run home: South Adelaide, Newton Jaguars, Oakdale, Garville

After round 11’s match against South Adelaide was postponed due to Covid, Matrics has an extra game in hand heading into a run home where securing the all-important double chance is the No. 1 goal.

The Stars should pick up wins against bottom two sides Newton Jaguars and Garville but face sterner tests against the Panthers and Oakdale.

Three wins from their last four would be enough to secure second spot, but anything less and Matrics could run the risk of being usurped by a hungry chasing pack.

3 – Tango

14 points (seven wins, four losses, 115.28 per cent)

Run home: Contax, Metro Jets, Newton Jaguars

It’s been another strong campaign so far for Tango but the real season starts now with what is shaping as a fierce fight for the top four.

An upset win against Contax this Friday – KommunityTV’s live streamed game of the week – would put Tango in a commanding position with Metro Jets and Newton Jaguars to finish.

But that’s easier said than done against the dominant Blues outfit.

At the very least, Tango will hope to keep it tight to maintain its percentage advantage over the two sides below it.

4 – South Adelaide

14 points (seven wins, three losses, 112.55 per cent)

Run home: Matrics, Oakdale, Contax, Metro Jets

South Adelaide had four wins on the trot coming into round 11 but the postponed game against Matrics has stalled its momentum, at least for now.

The Panthers beat Matrics in their earlier meeting and should fancy their chances of causing another upset in the rescheduled clash.

Key clashes against Oakdale and Contax follow before a fixture against Metro Jets to finish the home-and-away campaign.

Two wins from its final four could be enough for South to grab a finals berth.

5 – Oakdale

14 points (seven wins, four losses, 109.33 per cent)

Run home: South Adelaide, Matrics, Contax

Oakdale sits outside of the top four, looking in and faces arguably the toughest fixtures of the teams fighting for third and fourth place.

A clash against South this Friday night could be make or break, but coach Vanessa Dempsey and her side will take confidence into the match after a strong win over the Panthers in round five.

Lose that and it will be a big ask for Oakdale to pick up the points required against the league’s powerhouse clubs in the final two rounds.

6 – Metro Jets

Six points (three wins, eight losses, 79.88 per cent)

Run home: Garville, Tango, South Adelaide

Top four is out of the equation and the bottom two an unlikely possibility for sixth-ranked Metro Jets.

From here the Jets will likely have one eye on next year and continue to give opportunities to their emerging youngsters who have broken through this season.

A win this week against bottom-placed Garville would ensure Metro improves on 2021’s seventh-placed finish.

7 – Newton Jaguars

Two points (one win, 10 losses, 62.90 per cent)

Run home: Matrics, Garville, Tango

Ending the campaign seventh would be a better return than last year for Newton Jaguars, but the Paradise club will need to take care of Garville in round 13 to ensure it does not claim the unwanted wooden spoon once again.

The Jaguars have show signs of improvement this season but have lacked consistent performances across four quarters.

Another win would end things on a high.

8 – Garville

Zero points (zero wins, 11 losses, 65.93 per cent)

Run home: Metro Jets, Newton Jaguars, Matrics

A season of focusing on youth has not paid dividends for Garville in the wins column but two big opportunities remain for the proud club to break its Premier League duck in 2022.

Metro Jets and Newton Jaguars – the two teams directly above on the ladder – are the Greys’ opponents in the next fortnight before a tough clash against Matrics to finish the campaign.

Garville lost by nine and 15 goals respectively in its clashes with the sides earlier in the year and have shown genuine improvement in recent rounds.

A drought-breaking victory can’t be far away.
