A heart-stopping one-point win has put South Australia in prime position for the girls title at the School Sport Australia Under-12 Australian Football Championships.

The Croweaters came from behind late in the fourth quarter to steal victory from Western Australia on day two of the tournament in Adelaide.

WA had the upper hand early and looked like it would run away with the win with a 19-point advantage at half-time.

But the hosts were not deterred by a goalless start, holding the Sandgropers to just one behind cutting the lead down to seven points at three-quarter time.

SA needed a hero and Lila Baker stepped up to kick a goal and level the scores with only minutes remaining, before a late behind put the Croweaters up 3.4 (22) to 3.3 (21).

WA charged down the other end, only to be beaten by the siren.

It was SA’s second win of the championships.

In the other girls matches, Queensland took care of ACT and Victoria was too strong for NSW.

The Big V also had the better of their eastern states rival with a solid win in the boys, while SA beat WA by three points and Queensland had a big victory over ACT.

Boys sides will return tomorrow for another three crucial matches. The girls teams will take part in an education day before returning to the ovals on Wednesday.
