After the action was brought to an early close yesterday due to the deluge, the ASSRL National Championships will aim to hit the restart button on Wednesday.

While the rain has continued to fall overnight the ASSRL has shifted venues to Wauchope in the hope to get games underway from 11am, Wednesday.

The action will kick off with games from the Under-15 Boys Pool A with reigning champions NSW Combined Independent Schools taking on the ACT before NSW Combined Catholic Colleges clash with Queensland Maroon.

The day three action at the ASSRL Under-15/16s National Championships has been brought to an early close due to the wet weather impacting the tournament.

Play has been called off after the third match of the day, with NSW Combined High Schools girls triumphing over state rivals NSW Combined Catholic Colleges 6-4 in torrid conditions.

A call has been made to postpone the remaining games on day three, with a hope of playing those games on Wednesday - which was originally designated as a rest day for the tournament.

“It is a shame that we have had to make this call, but at the moment the field out there is a Heavy 10,” ASSRL chairman Anthony Lanskey said.

“We will need to postpone games until tomorrow. We will work out a way to get through to our finals day on Friday and play a final.”

PREVIEW

Two Illawarra Steelers teammates will go head-to-head in a NSW derby which has the chance to steal the show on day three at the ASSRL Under-15/16 Nartional Championships.

NSW Combined High Schools will take on NSW Combined Catholic Colleges for top spot in Pool B of the girls tournament.

The all-NSW affair will headline a big third day in Port Macquarie, with eight matches, including a re-run of last year’s boys Pool B final between the First Nations Goannas and WA, kicking off from 9am.

The clash also pits Lisa Faiola Shield teammates, and Steelers juniors, Ella Greatz and Skye Spencer head-to-head in the playmaking department.

Both players, who partnered in the halves in Illawarra’s run to the finals this season, have been key cogs in the attack of their respective sides.

Greatz has lit up the tournament setting up countless tries for the NSW Combined High Schools right edge, while Spencer has been the calm head steering the ship for the NSW CCC side.

Both teams have shown a penchant for points over the opening two days of the tournament, but it will be their work off the ball that could be the defining factor of the clash.

Neither team has conceded a single point over the opening two rounds.

In the boys action, the Goannas, searching for answers after Monday’s shellacking at the hands of Victoria, will take on a winless Western Australia in a grand final rematch.

For both sides the clash is must-win if they want to keep their hopes of reaching the Pool B final alive.

In the boys Pool A action, NSW CCC will aim to continue their red hot start to the tournament up against Queensland Maroon while defending champions NSW Combined Independent Schools take on ACT.

Every match of the ASSRL Under-15 and Under-16 National Championships will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from June 30-July 5.
