Seluki Halangahu, the younger brother of Australian Schoolboys representative Jacob Halangahu, put the family name up in lights with a brilliant showing out of dummy-half for the NSW CCC side.

The NSW Combined High Schools side continued its unbeaten start to the tournament in Port Macquarie with a 42-point demolition of the ACT on Tuesday.

Captain Hayden Bell and halfback Noah Fitzgerald pulled the strings of the seven try rout, while young gun Luca Te Awa has become an early fan favourite at the tournament after his perfect performance from the kick tee.

Te Awa kicked them from all parts of the field to finish with a perfect seven-from-seven conversions.

GIRLS DAY 2 WRAP

The Queensland forward pack proved too tough to handle for ACT as the reigning champions kept their undefeated start to the ASSRL Under-15/16 National Championships alive.

Inspirational captain Evelyn Roberts led the way, with the rest of the maroons jumping on her back and bulldozing their way through a valiant ACT side.

The Queenslanders ran away with the result with a barnstorming second half, but the ??-?? scoreline did not reflect the determined efforts of the ACT side – none more so than fullback Paula-Lee Going, who managed at least three one-on-one try-saving tackles.

Roberts was unstoppable in the middle of the field, and her tackle breaking carries and quick play-the-balls contributed to nearly every try the Queenslanders scored.

Queensland halfback Lilliannah Lewis had a healthy hand in the second-half demolition, while dummy-half Enah Desic scored one try and set-up another in the first half.

The Queenslanders weren’t the only title front-runners to stamp their authority on the ASSRL National Championships on day two in Port Macquarie.

NSW Combined High Schools picked up where they left off on the opening day, running in six unanswered tries in a brilliant 38-0 win over Western Australia.

Sky blues halfback Ella Greatz steered the NSW side with precision, setting up several four-pointers including one for runaway centre Anastasia Leatupue, who took her tournament tally to four tries in two games.

NSW CHS five-eighth Mia Tonga shifted out into the centres for the first half of the clash and reaped the rewards with a try-scoring double.

The NSW Combined Catholic Colleges side also remain undefeated after the opening two days in Port Macquarie after picking up a 24-0 win over Victoria.

NSW Combined Catholic Colleges have been referred to as the ‘dark horse’ of the ASSRL Under-15 boys nationals, and they get their first chance to prove why on Tuesday.

A team that only managed one win last year and bowed out with a cross-pool loss to developing state Victoria, the NSW CCC side will return to Port Macquarie with a point to prove this week.

The side, which is coached by Patrician Brothers College Blacktown mentor Noah Meares, will kick off it’s campaign against Queensland White.

The clash will headline a big second day of action at Port Macquarie which includes eight matches back-to-back from 9am.

The NSW CCC squad is a new-look outfit from last season and has been dominated by the Blacktown nursery with 10 Patrician Brothers youngsters across the squad of 20.

Included in the Patrician Brothers contingent is lock forward Charlie Xuereb, who returns from last year’s campaign, and Seluki Halangahu - the brother of Australian Schoolboys backrower Jacob Halangahu.

Queensland’s impressive Under-16 girls side will be determined to double down on their impressive opening day effort when they take the field on Monday.

Flashy five-eighth Torah Luadaka pulled all the right strings in the side’s opening win over NSW Combined Independent Schools, and will be a key cog as they take on fellow day one winners ACT in Round 2.

Monday’s action kicks off with two matches from Group 2 in the girls, with NSW Combined High Schools taking on Western Australia and Victoria clashing with NSW Combined Catholic Colleges.

Every match of the ASSRL Under-15 and Under-16 National Championships will be exclusively live streamed on KommunityTV from June 30-July 5.
