The impacts of the big wet that has swept NSW this month have stretched into the Peter Mulholland Cup.
All Saints College, Maitland has borne the brunt of the terrible conditions in recent times.
Preparation for their round two clash with Matraville Sports High has been far from ideal with players isolated from school and then having their training field washed out.
Despite the setbacks, head of sport Elliott Plank has high hopes the school can advance to a perfect 2-0 record.
“We’ve had a couple of recent NSWCCC trials and had some issues here in Maitland,” he said.
“They opened the floodgates. The day before the field was dry and then it all came into the school.
“We’ve had to push training back a bit and find opportunities to try and prepare. Some boys were isolated from school due to the floodwaters. This has happened in years previous so we’re used to it.
“We won’t let that get in the way. We’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Venue constraints have seen the fixture shifted from Matraville to Maitland, something Plank is very fortunate for.
“We’re lucky now that we’ve got two home games. They’ve decided to come up to Maitland which we are grateful for,” he said.
“To have the school there, we’re pumped to put on a big show. Particularly with these floods, we haven’t really had the opportunity to get together as a school.”
All Saints enters the clash as favourites on the back of a big round one victory over Holy Cross (40-14), while Matraville is searching for its maiden win after a 54-6 defeat at the hands of Patrician Brothers Blacktown.
Plank praised the energy his team played with, while also wary of a Matraville team set to bounce back in a big way.
“We were just really happy with the energy. We stuck to the game plan in the first half,” he said.
“We were a little bit disappointed with the second half. We got a bit excited and there are a lot of things we need to improve on.
“Round one wasn’t a true representation of how they (Matraville) will go. That Patrician Brothers team is very good. We expect them to bounce back.
“They’ve got a lot of pathways players at the Roosters and Souths. They’ll be ready to go, especially after that result.”
