Ivanhoe Knights have produced a second half spectacle to beat top three team Southern Suburbs with a penalty in the dying stages of their round 3 FNQRL A Grade clash.

The Knights trailed 18-4 at halftime and looked set to fall further behind before shocking Suburbs with a 40-minute blitz that ultimately ended in a 26-24 win to Ivanhoe at Smithfield Sporting Complex.

It was drama late when Zane Knowles put Ivanhoe in front in the 72nd minute before Damien Walker was put on report for an alleged headbutt and then sent off in the 69th minute for repeated infringements.

Adding to the fiery end was the ejection of a patron who was evicted from the premises after hurling abuse at the referee.

The win takes the Knights to 5-5 for the season and keeps them in touch with the top four.

Ivanhoe’s forward pack got the Knights into strong positions in the first half but the Knights were left to rue costly errors as a more polished Suburbs outfit took control.

The Knights lifted the intensity and minimised its mistakes in the second stanza to edge closer to Southern Suburbs before stealing the victory.

Atherton Roosters have hatched a secret plan to take down rivals Yarrabah Seahawks in a top of the table FNQRL Women’s clash.

The match will kick off a Super Saturday of FNQRL live stream action exclusively shown on KommunityTV.

The coverage, which kicks off with a women’s double header from midday, will include Ivanhoes Knights and Southern Suburbs going head-to-head across three grades. Check out the full schedule below.

While the high-flying Seahawks have won both encounters with the Roosters this season, Atherton coach Paul Stephens said his side was confident it could reverse those results.

“We were right in both of those games,” he said.

“The first one went down to the wire, with Yarrabah scoring in the last minute to beat us, and in the second one we were leading at half-time before they got away from us in the second half.”

Stephens said the Roosters had the ability to get the job done on Saturday but there were two areas that would underpin their success.

The Atherton Roosters will be chasing their first win against the Yarrabah Seahawks this weekend.

“We’ve got to hold the ball and not make any unnecessary mistakes,” he said.

“You’ve got to reduce your errors against Yarrabah or they’ll make you pay.”

Stephens called on his forward pack, led by workhorse Lexeen Mathieson, to really step up on Saturday.

“Yarrabah has a good forward pack and you need to hold them,” he said.

“We’re a bit smaller than them but if we do our job well, we can keep them out.”

The coach will be looking for another big game from his skipper May Oppenden who has made a big difference since returning to the ranks.

In the other women’s clash on Saturday, Ivanhoe Maidens will aim to bounce back from a last-round loss when they clash with Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks.

In the A Grade clash Southern Suburbs will be determined to correct course for the finals when they clash with a Josh Dugan-led Ivanhoes.

The resurgence of the Cockatoos has been the story of the season in the FNQRL, but their premiership credentials were given a harsh reality check by reigning premiers Brothers before the bye.

The battle of the halves, pitting the experienced Dugan against Northern Pride-contracted playmaker James Frazer, will be must watch.
