An emerging South Australia young gun is set to star at this weekend’s Football Australia Emerging Socceroos Championships.

SA U16s attacker Chris Irakoze, who also plays for Cumberland United, will be one to watch as his side competes in the coming national championships, which will take place in Melbourne from Sunday, July 6 to Friday, July 11.

An up and coming star, Irakoze was dominant for last year’s SA U15s, finishing as the second top scorer in the 2024 championships with 10 goals.

One of the players of the tournament, Irakoze’s pace, skill and goal awareness has SA coaches and teammates excited for what he could bring during this year’s tournament.

The U15 and U16 Boys age groups will involve 16 teams per age group which will compete across all six days of the championships in Melbourne, with quarterfinals, semi finals and grand finals all being held on the final Friday of competition.

SA will need to be at its best to take out the title, with a number of states including Victoria and NSW boasting top drawer talent.

Girls U15s and U16s will compete later this month at the Emerging Matildas Championships.
